EP755 Laparoscopically modified laterally extended endopelvic resection for gynecological malignancies involving pelvic side wall: a feasibility anal…

2019

Introduction/Background Lateral pelvic side wall involvement by gynecological malignancies has been considered for a long time an absolute contraindication to curative resection. Recently the surgical paradigm is challenged with the development of the Laterally Extended Endopelvic Resection, LEER. Although the LEER is perfectly standardized in open surgery, just one small experience has been published about its endoscopic feasibility. The objective of this study is to analyze the feasibility of Laparoscopically Modified Laterally Extended Endopelvic Resection, LM-LEER, in patients with gynecological malignancies involving the lateral pelvic side wall. Methodology We retrospectively evaluated…

Technical advances in radical retropubic prostatectomy techniques for avoiding complications. Part I: apical dissection

2003

Radical retropubic prostatectomy is currently the most widely used surgical treatment for localized prostate cancer. This once cumbersome procedure has developed technically over the last 20 years, reducing dramatically the associated complications and morbidity, e.g. blood loss, incontinence and impotence. Currently the operation is safe and is the best choice for eradicating localized disease, with little loss in quality of life. However, differences in reported outcomes indicate that there is still a need for standardization and continued efforts for surgical excellence. This review focuses on the crucial steps of the procedure, in two parts: the first covers apical dissection and the se…

Quality of Life Following Prestige LP Cervical Disc Arthroplasty in a Prospective Multicountry Study

2019

BACKGROUND: To describe routine surgical practice using Prestige LP Cervical Disc (Prestige disc) and patient outcomes for degenerative cervical disc disease in a multicenter 2-year prospective, observational study. METHODS: Patient demographics and intraoperative data were collected; quality of life (QoL) (EQ-5D, EQ-VAS, and neck disability index), average disc height, and adverse events were assessed pre- and postoperatively at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months. RESULTS: One hundred and ninety-four patients were enrolled (190 patients implanted; female: 67%; mean age: 44.0 years; mean body mass index: 25.6). Disc herniation was the most frequent indication for cervical arthroplasty (80.5%). Thirty-…

Improving the cementation of the tibial component in knee arthroplasty : a study of four techniques in the cadaver.

2021

Aims The main objective of this study is to analyze the penetration of bone cement in four different full cementation techniques of the tibial tray. Methods In order to determine the best tibial tray cementation technique, we applied cement to 40 cryopreserved donor tibiae by four different techniques: 1) double-layer cementation of the tibial component and tibial bone with bone restrictor; 2) metallic cementation of the tibial component without bone restrictor; 3) bone cementation of the tibia with bone restrictor; and 4) superficial bone cementation of the tibia and metallic keel cementation of the tibial component without bone restrictor. We performed CT exams of all 40 subjects, and mea…
