‘Maya chemistry’ of organic–inorganic hybrid materials: isomerization, cyclicization and redox tuning of organic dyes attached to porous silicates

2013

[EN] Association of indigo and lapachol dyes to aluminosilicate clays yields polyfunctional organic – inorganic hybrid materials forming Maya Blue-like systems. Upon partial removing of clay's zeolitic water by moderate thermal treatment, abundant isomerization, cyclicization and oxidation reactions occur defining a‘ Maya chemistry whose complexity could explain the versatile use of such materials in the pre-Columbian cultures and permits the preparation of polyfunctional materials potentially usable for therapeutic and catalytic purposes.

Characterization of cryopreserved rat liver parenchymal cells by metabolism of diagnostic substrates and activities of related enzymes

1992

The metabolism of testosterone and benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) which is mediated by diverse enzymes was determined in cryopreserved rat liver parenchymal cells and compared with that found in freshly isolated cells. In addition, the activities of single xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes were measured by using specific substrates. The cytochrome P450 (P450)-mediated total metabolic conversion of testosterone was reduced to 55% in cryopreserved cells. The metabolite profile, i.e. the formation of single metabolites compared with total metabolic conversion, was however unchanged when compared with freshly isolated cells. A concomitant reduction in the activities of the involved P450 isoenzymes can ther…

Blue-emitting pyrene-based aggregates.

2015

The self-assembling features and gel formation of two pyrene imidazoles are presented. The supramolecular aggregation of these synthesised molecules results in an unusual blue-monomeric emission, which is rationalized by a combined experimental and theoretical investigation.

Potential of Antifungal Proteins (AFPs) to Control Penicillium Postharvest Fruit Decay

2021

Penicillium phytopathogenic species provoke severe postharvest disease and economic losses. Penicillium expansum is the main pome fruit phytopathogen while Penicillium digitatum and Penicillium italicum cause citrus green and blue mold, respectively. Control strategies rely on the use of synthetic fungicides, but the appearance of resistant strains and safety concerns have led to the search for new antifungals. Here, the potential application of different antifungal proteins (AFPs) including the three Penicillium chrysogenum proteins (PAF, PAFB and PAFC), as well as the Neosartorya fischeri NFAP2 protein to control Penicillium decay, has been evaluated. PAFB was the most potent AFP against …

Evidence of Magnetoresistance in the Prussian Blue Lattice during a Voltammetric Scan

2008

This manuscript reports evidence of magnetoresistance effects in the Prussian Blue lattice during a voltammetric scan at room temperature. Accordingly, the PB is a well-known semiconductor that becomes surprisingly an almost metallic conductor in the presence of an internal magnetic field induced during the voltammetric scan. This offers appealing perspectives for the control of this interesting phenomenon from electrochemical techniques that could be used for the fabrication of the recent phase-change computational memories, which are electronically configurable. Herein, the PB magnetic properties have been monitored in situ by means of resonating magnetic microsensors based on the shift i…

Investigations of the emission properties of single CdS-nanocrystallites

1997

Semiconductor nanocrystallites (NCs) with a radius in the range of the bulk exciton radius exhibit a strong quantum size effect. We investigated CdS-NCs, that were spin coated on a glass cover slip, with a low temperature confocal microscope. At low coverage we could image the fluorescence light from single NCs. The typical emission spectra of single NCs show four peaks. Besides the main peak related to near bandgap recombination, up to two LO-phonon satellites and one blue shifted peak were observed. It could be shown that the absorption can be polarization dependent. From the images as well as from the intensity autocorrelation function it could be concluded that the fluorescence emission…

Mulighetskartlegging for kystbaserte næringer i Agder

2017

Mobile Encounter Networks and Their Applications

2008

This article presents mobile encounter networks (MENs), which emerge when mobile devices come across each other and form a temporary connection between them using a common short-range radio technology. Local information exchanges between mobile devices results in a broadcast diffusion of information to other users of the network with a delay. Gasoline price comparison system (GPCS), which delivers newest gasoline prices to mobile users using mobile encounter information diffusion, is described as well as other application areas where MENs could be used. The feasibility of building MENs using bluetooth is tested with the BlueCheese mobile encounter network middleware and it is found that the…

A MANET Autoconfiguration System based on Bluetooth Technology

2006

The availability of both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies on currently available devices offers the possibility to combine both in order to make the most out of their capabilities. In this paper we propose using Bluetooth technology to solve the configuration problem of the terminals conforming an IEEE 802.11-based ad-hoc network. The main objective of mobile ad- hoc networks (MANETs) is to extend the connectivity range of nodes through packet forwarding, thereby avoiding the use of a fixed infrastructure. However, since configuration of nodes is a complex issue, we provide a fast and reliable solution to auto-configure MANET terminals. Our solution is adequate for the quick setup and deplo…

Group mobility impact over TCP and CBR traffic in mobile ad hoc networks

2004

We present an analysis of the effect that mobility models have over the performance of a mobile ad hoc network. We concentrate on group mobility because there is a growing attention on the development and evaluation of MANET's approach applied to personal area networks (PANs), especially based on Bluetooth technology. We investigate the effect that the mobility model has on the performance of CBR traffic and TCP traffic. We propose four different group mobility models and describe a mobility pattern generator called grcmob to be used with the ns-2 simulator. We perform a thorough evaluation of a MANET behavior using as a reference the behavior obtained with the random waypoint mobility mode…
