Camera-based measurement of relative image contrast in projection displays

2013

International audience; This research investigated the measured contrast of projection displays based on pictures taken by un-calibrated digital cameras under typical viewing conditions. A high-end radiometer was employed as a reference to the physical response of projection luminance. Checkerboard, gray scale and color complex test images with a range of the projector's brightness and contrast settings were projected. Two local and two global contrast metrics were evaluated on the acquired pictures. We used contrast surface plots and Pearson correlation to investigate the measured contrast versus the projector's brightness and contrast settings. The results suggested, as expected, the proj…

Are Kawasaki Disease and Pediatric Multi-Inflammatory Syndrome Two Distinct Entities? Results from a Multicenter Survey During SARS-CoV-2 Epidemic in…

2020

Background: There is mounting evidence on the existence of a childhood multi-inflammatory syndrome related to SARS-CoV-2, sharing similarities with Kawasaki Disease (KD).  Methods: On April 24th,2020 the Rheumatology Study Group of the Italian Pediatric Society launched a survey to enroll patients diagnosed with KD or KD-like disease. Classification was: 1) classical and incomplete KD, named Kawasaki Disease Group (KDG); 2) KD-like multi-inflammatory syndrome, named KawaCOVID Group (KCG). Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data, treatment information, and patients’ outcome were collected in an online anonymized database (RedCAPO). A New Systematic Series of Foil Sections with Parallel Sides

2020

Parallel-sided foil sections are used for centerboards and rudders in sailing dinghy classes and also for struts placed in a fluid flow. The objective of this work is to create a systematic series of parallel-sided sections to be used under different conditions, with an emphasis on the sailing dinghies 470, 420 and Optimist. The loss, and surprisingly the gain, in performance relative to 4-digit NACA sections are also investigated. A 2D Reynolds-averaged Navier&ndash

Building a statistical surveillance dashboard for COVID-19 infection worldwide

2020

When a pandemic like the current novel coronavirus (COVID-19) breaks out, it is important that authorities, healthcare organizations and official decision makers, have in place an effective monitoring system to promptly analyze data, create new insights into problematic areas and generate actionable knowledge for fact-based decision making. The aim of this article is to describe an initial work focused on building a comprehensive statistical surveillance dashboard for the epidemic of COVID-19, which can be exploited also for future needs. We propose novel ways of exploring, analyzing and presenting data, using metrics that have not been used previously. We also show the steps necessary to b…

Charge measurement using an array of Faraday’s Cups on a printed circuit board

2014

Abstract An absolute method of measuring charge is to use a Faraday Cup (FC) principle. This study relates to a novel method of measuring charge on a flat substrate, which is coated with charged powder particles. The substrate consists of an array of FC with different dimensions. The sensor is manufactured using flame-retardant printed circuit board (PCB) technology. The objective of this work is to reduce the charge sharing by developing a grounded shield cup around each conductive cup in the array and accordingly increase cup-to-ground capacitance. The results have confirmed that the improved well shielding would provide a more accurate quantitative charge measurement.

Hardware/Software Implementation of Image Processing Systems Based on ARM Processor

2020

International audience; In this paper we present a hardware/software platform for real-time image processing. We start with the creation of the hardware part based on the ARM processor (PS) with various drivers (PL) for reading, recording and displaying images. Using the SDK tool (Software Development Kit), we add software parts for the realization of some basic image processing algorithms. We use the Xilinx-VIVADO2016 tool for the proposed system design and we use the rapid development board (Xilinx-ZedBoard) for practical implementations. To realize the principle of codesign, we add hardware IPs (RTL level) for the implementation of the same image processing algorithms. To avoid the detai…

From the Reference SEU Monitor to the Technology Demonstration Module On-Board PROBA-II

2008

The reference SEU Monitor system designed and presented in 2005 (R. H. SOslashrensen, F.-X. Guerre, and A. Roseng ldquoDesign, testing and calibration of a reference SEU monitor system, rdquo in Proc. RADECS, 2005, pp. B3-1-B3-7) has now been used by many researchers at many radiation test sites and has provided valuable calibration data in support of numerous projects. As some of these findings and results give new insight into improved inter-facility calibrations and provide additional inputs into ongoing SEE research, a few of the more interesting cases are presented. Furthermore the dasiadetector elementpsila, the Atmel AT60142F SRAM, now in a hybrid configuration, will form the key dete…

Development of a high-accuracy PC-based wattmeter with commercial data acquisition boards

2011

This paper presents the development of a high accuracy sampling wattmeter, which makes use of two commercial data acquisition boards (DAQs) connected to a common personal computer. Commercial software is also used for data processing and implementation of the virtual instrument. The set up of the PC-based wattmeter is described and a preliminary evaluation of its metrological performances is made by means of two series of experimental tests, which were carried out with an electric power standard and a high performance multifunction calibrator. © 2011 IEEE.

Chlorinated dioxins and dibenzothiophenes in fly ash samples from combustion of peat, wood chips, refuse derived fuels and liquid packaging boards

1995

Abstract Peat, wood chips, refuse derived fuel and liquid packaging board in different combinations were burned at a temperature of at least 850 °C. Fly ash samples from these combustions were analyzed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDBTs) by high resolution GC/MS. The concentrations of tri- and tetrachlorodibenzothiophenes and tri-, tetra- and pentachlorodioxins were highest when mixtures of wood chips and refuse derived fuel (RDF) were burned. The fly ash from the combustion of pure peat pellets did not contain any polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes. When wood chips and RDF were burned the concentrations of chlorinated compounds in fly…
