Fabry Disease With Concomitant Lewy Body Disease

2019

AbstractAlthough Gaucher disease can be accompanied by Lewy pathology (LP) and extrapyramidal symptoms, it is unknown if LP exists in Fabry disease (FD), another progressive multisystem lysosomal storage disorder. We aimed to elucidate the distribution patterns of FD-related inclusions and LP in the brain of a 58-year-old cognitively unimpaired male FD patient suffering from predominant hypokinesia. Immunohistochemistry (CD77, α-synuclein, collagen IV) and neuropathological staging were performed on 100-µm sections. Tissue from the enteric or peripheral nervous system was unavailable. As controls, a second cognitively unimpaired 50-year-old male FD patient without LP or motor symptoms and 3…

An efficient Escherichia coli expression system for the production of a functional N-terminal domain of the T1R3 taste receptor.

2012

http://www.landesbioscience.com/; International audience; Sweet taste is mediated by a dimeric receptor composed of two distinct subunits, T1R2 and T1R3, whereas the T1R1/T1R3 receptor is involved in umami taste perception. The T1R1, T1R2, and T1R3 subunits are members of the small family of class C G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). The members of this family are characterized by a large N-terminal domain (NTD), which is structurally similar to bacterial periplasmic-binding proteins and contains the primary ligand-binding site. In a recent study, we described a strategy to produce a functional dimeric human T1R3-NTD. Although the protein was expressed as inclusion bodies (IBs) using the …

Gestión del cuerpo y planificación urbana: Desplazamiento de significado en la reivención de cuepos y ciudades

2020

Contemporary cities have administrations increasingly marked by urban planning guidelines that are guided by business and marketing and, to attract investments and tourists, implement strategies that aim to homogenize, spectacularize and control urban space. However, other experiences in the city potentially build new meaning to it, which would escape those strategically planned, creating alternative possibilities of uses, diverging from the way thar are predicted and proposed by the governmental power in their urban marketing strategies. The article discusses how the occupation of urban spaces by transvestites for prostitution may imply reflections on the role of norms of gender in the (re…

Towards Translational ImmunoPET/MR Imaging of Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis: The Humanised Monoclonal Antibody JF5 Detects Aspergillus Lung Infect…

2017

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a life-threatening lung disease of hematological malignancy or bone marrow transplant patients caused by the ubiquitous environmental fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. Current diagnostic tests for the disease lack sensitivity as well as specificity, and culture of the fungus from invasive lung biopsy, considered the gold standard for IPA detection, is slow and often not possible in critically ill patients. In a previous study, we reported the development of a novel non-invasive procedure for IPA diagnosis based on antibody-guided positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (immunoPET/MRI) using a [64Cu] DOTA-labeled mouse monoclonal anti…

Modeling of female human body shapes for apparel design based on cross mean sets

2014

This paper is concerned with a method to build prototypes of human bodies that can be used for apparel design. One of the most important issues in the apparel development process is to define a sizing system to provide a good fitting for the majority of the population. Since anthropometric measures do not present the same linear growth with size in each dimension, it is very important to find a prototype that represents as accurately as possible each class in the sizing system. In this paper we propose a method based on the concept of random compact mean set to define prototypes in apparel design. From a cloud of 3D points obtained with a 3D scanner a solid that represents the human body is…

Identification and characterization of autoantibodies against catalase and α-enolase in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis

1998

SUMMARY Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease of unknown aetiology. Recent studies have shown that genetic factors and both cellular and humoral immunological abnormalities are important in the pathogenesis of PSC. The most prominent autoantibodies in PSC are anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA). The autoepitopes of ANCA in PSC are not well defined. The aim of this study was to identify corresponding ANCA autoantigens in patients with PSC. A biochemical approach with enrichment and partial purification of soluble neutrophil proteins, detection of autoantibodies by Western blot and partial amino acid sequencing were used. Two new autoantigen/aut…

Intra-individual variability in TSH levels of healthy women during the first half of pregnancy

2017

TSH is the parameter most widely accepted to assess thyroid function, especially in pregnant women. The aim of this current study was to analyze intra-individual changes in TSH during the first half of pregnancy in women with TSH levels higher than 2.5mIU/L in early pregnancy. An observational, prospective study was conducted on 243 healthy pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy. Thyroid function was assessed by testing TSH and free T4 levels. A subgroup of women with TSH levels2.5mIU/L underwent additional tests (TSH, free T4, peroxidase antibodies). Information on dietary iodine intake and/or iodine supplements was also recorded.Mean TSH level was 1.89mIU/L (range 0.024-6.48mIU…
