Władze Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej na uchodźstwie wobec sytuacji w Polsce w latach 1947–1949
2018
The authorities of the Republic of Poland in exile tried to follow and analyse the situation in Poland after World War 2. The developments in the years 1947–1949 which aroused particular interest among emigrants were the elections to the Legislative Sejm, the issue of the Oder-Neisse borderline and the sovietisation of Poland. These topics were raised by the president in his speeches, by the government during its meetings and by the National Council of Poland during its sessions. The authorities in exile did not manage, however, to exert influence upon the situation in Poland. Because of the political isolation of the government of the Republic of Poland in exile, emigrants could merely sta…
Borderline Personality in Patients with Poly-Diagnoses Treated for a Bipolar Disorder
2019
Some patients with dysphoria, explosive behaviour, or suicidal ideation, may receive a diagnosis of, and treatment for Bipolar Disorder (BD) and, not infrequently. The coexistence of these two diagnoses has been explained in different ways. Some authors include the BPD in the bipolar spectrum; others are sceptical about the existence of real comorbidity, suggesting a misdiagnosis. This study aimed to assess the personality of this group of poly-diagnosed patients (PolyD) and hypothesised they had a pathological borderline organisation. Via the administration of the Schedler Westen Assessment Procedure (SWAP-200), we compared PolyD patients with those suffering from BPD or BD only. We perfor…
An Analysis of a Single Case of Comorbidity between Learning Disability and Borderline Intellectual Functioning
2012
Abstract In this study we explored a case of comorbidity between DSA and Borderline Intellectual Functioning. The girl was fourteen years old, ninth grade of school in Palermo, with significant learning difficulties. Two interviews were conducted, one with parents and one with teachers, to investigate the history of the girl's learning. In the pre-test phase the following cognitive areas were investigated: Q.I. (Level of Intelligence), decoding ability, reading comprehension and writing skills. Motivational-emotional profile was also evaluated: school motivation, self-handicapping strategies, self esteem and school anxiety. To assess these cognitive areas we used: Reading Comprehension Test…
The prevalence and predictors of bipolar and borderline personality disorders comorbidity: Systematic review and meta-analysis
2016
Introduction Data about the prevalence of borderline personality (BPD) and bipolar (BD) disorders comorbidity are scarce and the boundaries remain controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis investigating the prevalence of BPD in BD and BD in people with BPD. Methods Two independent authors searched MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO and the Cochrane Library from inception till November 4, 2015. Articles reporting the prevalence of BPD and BD were included. A random effects meta-analysis and meta-regression were conducted. Results Overall, 42 papers were included: 28 considering BPD in BD and 14 considering BD in BPD. The trim and fill adjusted analysis demonstrated the prevale…
Systematic review of psychotherapeutic treatments for “minor” personality disorders
2011
IntroductionAmong personality disorders (PDs), antisocial and borderline personality disorder are well-studied. However, the remaining PDs (in the following called “minor PDs”) pose major problems in everyday-health care settings. People affected often present with additional axis-l disorders such as substance-related, mood or anxiety disorders, and are among those most difficult to treat.ObjectivesTo systematically review the current evidence of psychotherapeutic treatments for “minor” personality disordersMethodsIn the context of Cochrane Collaboration reviews for Cluster A, B and C PDs, exhaustive literature searches were done to identify the current RCT evidence for PD treatments. The e…
The Suicidal State between “the Wish to Die” and “an Urge to Die”
2015
Abstract From the standpoint of existential analysis, the present article compares the psycho-dynamics of the suicidal states examined hereby, where the first case is diagnosed as a “Major depressive episode. Borderline personality disorder” and the second case as “Severe major depressive episode, with psychotic elements”. In the first case, the suicidal state was based on the association between the second motivation (“to enjoy life”) and the third motivation (“to be myself”), and the suicidal act was a “false” one. In the second case, the suicidal state resulted from the second motivation (“to enjoy life”) and the first motivation (“being able to be”), and it was a “real” suicidal act.
Association analysis between gene variants of the tyrosine hydroxylase and the serotonin transporter in borderline personality disorder.
2010
For patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD), we previously reported an independent effect of the catechol-o-methyl-transferase (COMT) low-activity (Met(158)) allele and an interaction with the low-expression allele of the deletion/insertion (short/long or S/L, resp.) polymorphism in the serotonin transporter-linked promoter region (5-HTTLPR). The purpose of the present study was to extend these findings to the tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) Val(81)Met single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), the 5-HTTLPR S/L polymorphism incorporating the recently described functional A/G SNP within the long allele of the 5-HTTLPR (rs25531) as well as the variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) polymorp…
Tangential Venous Resections during Robotic-Assisted Pancreaticoduodenectomy: the Results of a Case Series (with Video)
2020
Introduction: Despite the potential advantages in terms of microdissection and microsuturing capabilites, the robotic approach for borderline resectable pancreatic cancer is scarcely reported. Methods: We report our technique for a robotic-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy with tangential Portal/ Superior Mesenteric Vein resection/reconstruction (RPD PV/SMV).We also compared the surgical outcomes of eight consecutive patients undergoing RPD PV/SMV with that of sixty patients who underwent robotic-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) in the same period of time. Results: A total of eight consecutive patients underwent RPD PV/SMV. We observed an increased estimated blood loss (550 vs 280 mL, …
Borderline resectable pancreatic cancer. Challenges and controversies.
2018
Abstract Pancreatic cancer is a dismal disease with an increasing incidence. Despite the majority of patients are not candidates for curative surgery, a subgroup of patients classified as borderline resectable pancreatic cancer can be selected in whom a sequential strategy of neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery can provide better outcomes. Multidisciplinary approach and surgical pancreatic expertise are essential for successfully treating these patients. However, the lack of consensual definitions and therapies make the results of studies very difficult to interpret and hard to be implemented in some settings. In this article, we review the challenges of borderline resectable pancreatic…
