Para el historiador que no es testigo de los sucesos es difícil sentar los hechos históricos, y sobre todo interpretarlos desde su particular posición. Con facilidad se desliza el error, la duda, y más aún los contamina con los valores o concepciones que el historiador mantiene. En este trabajo vemos de enmarcar los hechos más esenciales del levantamiento de Hidalgo en la Nueva España. Nuestro propósito es comparar la forma de presentar estos acontecimientos de la independencia de México por varios historiadores españoles en el pasado siglo. Los hechos son los mismos, sin embargo la narración presenta matices y consideraciones diversas, según la etapa y la ideología del autor.

Proboscidea: a preliminary note

Abstract Proboscidean remains collected during the 1983–1989 field seasons are described here. They are assigned to Deinotherium aff. levius (14 isolated teeth) and to Gomphotherium pasalarense (44 isolated teeth). No evidence was found for another subspecies described by Gaziry from Pasalar. The proboscidea are probably indicative of woodland conditions at Pasalar.

This paper considers how St Giovanni Bosco’s nineteenth century creation of vocational laboratories in the Piedmont was an important milestone in the development of Italian work pedagogy. His preventive method was formative because it concerned both single individuals as well as cultivation of human relationships within community contexts. After Don Bosco’s death those first workshops evolved into schools that developed practical work pedagogies that remained faithful to Bosco’s ideals as they responded to the changing needs of the times. Still present within the Salesian vocation school experience are the historical principals that highly value manual work.

Use of large Acacia trees by the cavity dwelling Black-tailed Tree Rat in the Southern Kalahari

Recent extensive harvesting of large, often dead Acacia trees in arid savanna of southern Africa is cause for concern about the conservation status of the arid savanna and its animal community. We mapped vegetation and nests of the Black-tailed Tree Rat Thallomys nigricauda to assess the extent to which the rats depend on particular tree species and on the existence of dead, standing trees. The study was conducted in continuous Acacia woodland on the southern and eastern edge of the Kalahari, South Africa. L’area dei Monti Sicani costituisce uno dei comprensori in cui è stata realizzata la maggiore estensione di rimboschimenti di conifere della Sicilia occidentale, nell’ambito della politica di salvaguardia del territorio dal dissesto idrogeologico intrapresa dallo Stato e continuata dalla Regione. Lo stato qualitativo di queste formazioni è carente a causa di diverse ragioni: frequenti incendi, pascolo eccessivo, elevata frammentazione degli habitat naturali, mancanza di adeguati interventi selvicolturali.
