Chemical Composition of the Leaf Oil ofLantana camara

2005

The essential oil of the fresh leaves of Lantana camera growing in Dehra Dun was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The major constituents identified in the oil included β-caryophyllene (23.3%), α-humulene (11.5%), germacrene D (10.9%), davanone (7.3%) and γ-curcumene (6.3%).

MORPHOLOGICAL AND ANATOMICAL STRUCTURE OF GALLS IN GENISTA FLORIDA L. SUBSP. POLYGALIPHYLLA (BROT.) COUTHINO (LEGUMINOSAE)

1999

This paper describes the morphology and anatomy of a structure which appears in the floral racemes of Genista florida L. subsp. polygaliphylla (Brot.) Couthino. In this subspecies the floral racemes have a small number of flowers. This structure develops quite frequently in this taxon, which is found in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, but never in Genista florida subsp. florida. Its morphology is simple: bottle-shaped, wide at the base and elongated to a narrow peak at the upper extreme. Anatomical examination shows that these structures have a close similarity to flowers. Since they develop by the oviposition of one insect of the Cecidomyiidae family in the floral buds, they can be…

Modulation of immune responses ofRhynchophorus ferrugineus(Insecta: Coleoptera) induced by the entomopathogenic nematodeSteinernema carpocapsae(Nemat…

2014

Aim of this study was to investigate relationships between the red palm weevil (RPW) Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) and the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema carpocapsae (EPN); particularly, the work was focused on the immune response of the insect host in naive larvae and after infection with the EPN. Two main immunological processes have been addressed: the activity and modulation of host prophenoloxidase-phenoloxidase (proPO) system, involved in melanization of not-self and hemocytes recognition processes responsible for not-self encapsulation. Moreover, immune depressive and immune evasive strategies of the parasite have been investigated. Our results suggest that RPW possess a…

Fungal pathogens associated with grapevine trunk diseases in young vineyards in Sicily

2020

After the first report of grapevine decline caused by Botryosphaeriaceae in Sicily in 2007, epidemiological studies carried out in mature vineyards until 2011 confirmed the widespread occurrence of “Botryosphaeria dieback” and the “Esca complex” disease. Dieback symptoms were also recently observed in two young vineyards in Partanna and Castellammare del Golfo in western Sicily (Trapani province). Declining vines were inspected for grapevine trunk disease (GTD) symptoms, and were uprooted and submitted for analyses. Fungal isolates were collected and identified using culturing and molecular analyses. One isolate per identified species was inoculated to three grapevine shoots to evaluate pat…

Caroli Linnaeus. Species Plantarum 1753. gada izdevums

2019

Latvijas Universitātes Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās glabājas Karla Linneja (1707 – 1778) viena no viņa izcilākā darba “Species Plantarum” pirmizdevumiem, kam šobrīd ir ne tikai zinātniska, bet arī bibliogrāfiska vērtība. Zīmogi un ieraksti šajās grāmatās dod liecības par to īpašniekiem laika gaitā.

Cybertherapy meets Facebook, Blogger and Second Life: an Italian experience

2009

Our project is based on the study of Cybertherapy in the international sphere (USA, Northern Europe) and on the application of this discipline to the Italian psychiatric and psychological reality. CyberTherapy can be used as an "aim", referring to it as real and proper therapy, which lives on personalized paths created by a qualified staff, conceived as ludic, for recreational, psycoterapic, and educational purpose. Moreover, Cybertherapy can be used as a "mean" (and in this way we want to propose it) with the aim of making the user, who feels a psychiatric or a psychological uneasiness, to become closer to qualified staff; a considerable advantage of this discipline is to reduce to a minim…

Floral Diversity and Pollen Transfer Mechanisms in Bird-pollinated Salvia Species

2007

† Background and Aims Bird-pollinated (ornithophilous) Salvia species (sages) transfer pollen either by means of a staminal lever mechanism or by immovable stamens. As the distribution of the two modes within the genus is not known, we present a survey of all ornithophilous sages. The main focus is given to floral diversity especially with respect to functional lever morphology. Thereby the hypothesis is tested that, due to a pollinator shift from bees to birds, the lever mechanism became unnecessary. † Methods To get a general idea about the diversity of pollen transfer mechanisms, 186 ornithophilous Salvia species were classified according to the functional morphology of the stamen and th…
