An algorithm for solving generalized algebraic Lyapunov equations in Hilbert space, applications to boundary value problems

1988

Let L(H) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a separable complex Hubert space H. In a recent paper [7], explicit expressions for solutions of a boundary value problem in the Hubert space H, of the typeare given in terms of solutions of an algebraic operator equation

Boundary element method for magneto-electro-elastic laminates

2006

A boundary integral formulation and its numerical implementation are presented for the analysis of magneto-electro-elastic media. The problem is formulated by using a suitable set of generalized variables. The governing boundary integral equation is obtained by generalizing the reciprocity theorem to the magneto-electro-elasticity. The fundamental solutions are calculated through a modified Lekhnitskii’s approach, reformulated in terms of generalized magneto-electroelastic displacements. To assess the reliability and effectiveness of the formulation, some numerical analyses have been carried out and the convergence of the method has been studied. The multidomain approach has been developed …

Laparoscopic Repair of Boundary Incisional Hernia in a Kidney Transplant Patient: A Safe Tacks-Fibrin Glue Combined Mesh Fixation Technique.

2018

Abstract Background Incisional hernia in renal transplant patients is a complication that negatively affects the global outcome of transplant and quality of life. The repair of this condition was classically made by open repair with mesh. Increasing evidence suggests that laparoscopic repair could be advocated as the technique of choice in these patients with optimal results. However, the fixation of mesh should be performed by a mixed combination of fibrin sealant (lateral margin of wall defect) and tacks (medial margin). The tacks fixation of the mesh along the lateral margin of the wall defect, close to the graft, is generally difficult for the small size of the remaining aponeurotic pla…

Pre-industrial money supply typically consisted of multiple, often foreign currencies. Standard economic theory implies that this entails welfare loss due to transaction costs imposed by currency exchange. Through a study of novel data on Finnish nineteenth-century parish-level currency conditions, we show that individual currencies had principal areas of circulation, with extensive co-circulation restricted to the boundary regions in between. We show that trade networks, defined here through the regional co-movement of grain prices, proved crucial in determining the currency used. Market institutions and standard price mechanisms had an apparent role in the spread of different currencies a…

Tabu search with strategic oscillation for the maximally diverse grouping problem

2013

We propose new heuristic procedures for the maximally diverse grouping problem (MDGP). This NP-hard problem consists of forming maximally diverse groups—of equal or different size—from a given set of elements. The most general formulation, which we address, allows for the size of each group to fall within specified limits. The MDGP has applications in academics, such as creating diverse teams of students, or in training settings where it may be desired to create groups that are as diverse as possible. Search mechanisms, based on the tabu search methodology, are developed for the MDGP, including a strategic oscillation that enables search paths to cross a feasibility boundary. We evaluate co…

Droplet cell investigation of intergranular corrosion on AA2024

2017

An original method combining a droplet cell with direct optical interrogation of the reverse side of a 50μm thick foil AA2024 has been tested to evaluate the possible analysis of the current during intergranular corrosion tests. The foil microstructure and the selected orientation were suitable for recording the current generated during the propagation in volume of a well-defined grain boundary trace. Even if it is impossible to reach a charge and mass balance from these preliminary attempts, it was demonstrated that it is possible, despite hydrogen evolution, to record a current transient resulting from the full penetration of an intergranular path. Keywords: Intergranular corrosion, Alumi…

Grain size effect and local disorder in polycrystalline relaxors via scanning probe microscopy

2007

Local piezoresponse of individual grains in polycrystalline Pb0.9125La0.0975(Zr0.65Ti0.35)0.976O3 (PLZT 9.75/65/35) relaxor ceramics is studied using the scanning probe microscopy (SPM) technique. The observed piezoelectric contrast consisting of irregular (labyrinth-type) polarization patterns is attributed to the compositional disorder and consequent charge imbalance caused by high La concentration. A measure of this disorder, the polarization correlation length ξ, is directly determined using an autocorrelation analysis function implemented in the SPM software. The analysis of the obtained images shows that ξ taken at the scale ~200 nm varies as a function of the position inside the grai…
