Four-Component Relativistic DFT Calculations of C-13 Chemical Shifts of Halogenated Natural Substances

2015

We have calculated the (13) C NMR chemical shifts of a large ensemble of halogenated organic molecules (81 molecules for a total of 250 experimental (13) C NMR data at four different levels of theory), ranging from small rigid organic compounds, used to benchmark the performance of various levels of theory, to natural substances of marine origin with conformational degrees of freedom. Carbon atoms bonded to heavy halogen atoms, particularly bromine and iodine, are known to be rather challenging when it comes to the prediction of their chemical shifts by quantum methods, due to relativistic effects. In this paper, we have applied the state-of-the-art four-component relativistic density funct…

Mass measurements of As, Se, and Br nuclei, and their implication on the proton-neutron interaction strength toward the N=Z line

2021

Mass measurements of the $^{69}$As, $^{70,71}$Se and $^{71}$Br isotopes, produced via fragmentation of a $^{124}$Xe primary beam at the FRS at GSI, have been performed with the multiple-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MR-TOF-MS) of the FRS Ion Catcher with an unprecedented mass resolving power of almost 1,000,000. For the $^{69}$As isotope, this is the first direct mass measurement. A mass uncertainty of 22 keV was achieved with only 10 events. For the $^{70}$Se isotope, a mass uncertainty of 2.6 keV was obtained, corresponding to a relative accuracy of $\delta$m/m = 4.0$\times 10^{-8}$, with less than 500 events. The masses of the $^{71}$Se and $^{71}$Br isotopes were measured…

Oral aphthous-like ulceration due to tiotropium bromide

2007

Unwanted side-effects of a drug therapy are well known to oral medicine specialists and other colleagues. Usually they manifest itself as dry mouth, taste disturbances, various allergic or toxic reactions on the lips and/or in the oral cavity. However, the list of the drugs which might induce unwanted reactions is everyday becoming longer as more and more drugs are introduced on the market. Certain problems when diagnosing and reporting unwanted side effects of the drugs exist as only accurate method of diagnosis is repeated drug use in controlled clinical setting where fatal consequences due to the anaphilactic shock could be avoided. We report a side effect reaction to tiotropium bromide …

Natural Halogen Emissions to the Atmosphere: Sources, Flux, and Environmental Impact

2022

Understanding the atmospheric geochemical cycle of both natural and anthropogenic halogens is important because of the detrimental effect halogens have on the environment, notably on tropospheric and stratospheric ozone. Oceans are the primary natural source for atmospheric Cl, F, Br, and I, but anthropogenic emissions are still important, especially for Cl. While emissions of human-made halocarbons (e.g., chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs) are expected to continue to decrease allowing progressive stratospheric ozone recovery, volcanic activity (e.g., clusters of mid-scale explosive eruptions or large-scale explosive eruptions) might disturb this recovery over the next decades. This review provid…

Complex technological and biological research of solutions for peritoneal dialysis

2018

Objective : The purpose of our work was to conduct technological, analytical, and biological investigations and stability studies of peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions containing glucose and sodium lactate in single-chamber containers. Methods : Different formulations of PD solutions were prepared and sterilized at a temperature of 121 °C during 15 m. UV-spectrophotometric determination was performed using purified water as a blank. The spectra of the solutions were run in the range of 220 to 400 nm for the identification of an absorption maximum (λ max ) and measuring the absorbance at 228-230 nm and λ max before and after heat sterilization. λ max of the most PD solutions after sterilizat…

1,1,4,4-Tetramethylpiperazinediium dibromide

2009

A small quantity of the title compound, C8H20N22+·2Br−, was formed as a by-product in a reaction between a diamine and an alkyl bromide. The asymmetric unit contains half of a centrosymmetric dication and a bromide anion. In the crystal, weak intermolecular C—H...Br hydrogen bonds consolidate the crystal packing.

A new set of standards for in–situ measurement of bromine abundances in natural silicate glasses: Application to SR-XRF, LA-ICP-MS and SIMS techniques

2017

Measuring the low bromine abundances in Earth's materials remains an important challenge in order to constrain the geodynamical cycle of this element. Suitable standard materials are therefore required to establish reliable analytical methods to quantify Br abundances. In this study we characterise 21 Br-doped glasses synthesized from natural volcanic rocks of mafic to silicic compositions, in order to produce a new set of standards for Br analyses using various techniques. The nominal Br contents (amounts of Br loaded in the experimental samples) of 15 of 21 glasses were confirmed within 20% by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). Using this new set of standards, we compare thr…

Tunable Interaction Strength and Nature of the S···Br Halogen Bonds in [(Thione)Br2] Systems

2015

The strength and nature of the S···Br and Br···Br interactions were systematically tuned by altering the electron donor properties of the thione group. Three new halogen-bonded compounds, [(N-methylbenzothiazole-2-thione)Br2]·0.5CH2Cl2 (1), [(2(3H)-benzothiazolethione)Br2] (2), and [(2-benzimidazolethione)Br]·[Br3] (3), were synthesized and studied structurally by using X-ray crystallography and computationally by using charge density analysis based on QTAIM calculations. Analysis of the interaction strength indicated a formation of surprisingly strong S···Br halogen bonds in 1 (−104 kJ mol–1, and RBrS = 0.64) and 2 (−116 kJ mol–1, and RBrS = 0.63) with a substantial covalent contribution. …
