Novel bile acid conjugates with aryl/alkenyl linker: Synthesis and characterization
2008
Abstract Eight potential precursors for the design of bile acid derived receptors viz. 2,6-bis[dimethyl(3α-hydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammonio-methyl]naphthalene dibromide (1), 3,3′-bis[dimethyl(3α-hydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]biphenyl dibromide (2), 3,3′-bis[dimethyl(3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]biphenyl dibromide (3), 4,4′-bis[dimethyl(3α-hydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]stilbene dibromide (4), 4,4′-bis[dimethyl(3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammoniomethyl]stilbene dibromide (5), allyl-dimethyl(3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl)ammonium bromide (6), 1,4′-bis[dimethyl(3α-hydroxy-5β-cholan-24-amidoethyl…
Effects of BDE-47 exposure on immune-related parameters of Mytilus galloprovincialis.
2019
Abstract The persistent pollutants polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) have been demonstrated to produce several negative effects on marine organisms. Although Mytilus galloprovincialis was extensively studied as model system, the effects of PBDEs on the innate immune system of mussels remains unclear. In this study, except for the control treatment, specimens of M. galloprovincialis were fed with microalgae treated with increasing concentrations of PBDEs (maximum level 100 ng L−1 of BDE-47 per day). BDE-47 treatment was maintained for 15 days and then the animals were fed with the same control diet, without contaminants, for 15 days. Samples of haemolymph (HL) were obtained at T0, T15 a…
Preparation, crystal structure at 298 and 90 K and phase transition in (C2H5NH3)2 [SbBr5] studied by the single crystal X-ray diffraction method
2004
The reaction of antimony(III) oxide with ethylamine, in molar ratios from 1:1 to 1:10, in concentrated hydrobromic acid leads to the formation of one product - bis(ethylammonium) pentabromoantimonate( III). The structure of (C2H5NH3)2[SbBr5] was determined at 298 and 90 K, below and above the phase transition that occurs at about 158.5 K. The orthorhombic system was found in both phases, space groups Cmca and Pbca at 298 and 90 K, respectively. At both temperatures the structure consists of [SbBr6]3− octahedra connected via cis bromine atoms forming one-dimensional zig-zag [{SbBr5}2−]n chains. The ethylammonium cations fill the space between polyanionic chains. The organic and inorganic sub…
A new form of tumor and fetal collagen that binds laminin.
1993
Human breast and colon carcinoma tissues contain a form of collagen, not described before, composed of alpha 1 chains of similar size (approximately 100 kDa) but different charge. The three constitutive chains, separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis, are a unique acidic component, undetectable in other collagen types, with an apparent isoelectric point of 4-5, and two more basic components displaying the same electrophoretic behavior as alpha 1(III) and alpha 1(I), respectively. The acidic chain is structurally distinct from alpha 1(I) and displays a cyanogen bromide-derived fragment of similar size to CB5(III). This collagen in its native state is resistant to trypsin and metalloprot…
Improving sensitivity in simultaneous determination of copper carboxylates by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis
2005
Abstract A new method of nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) with UV spectrophotometric detection was developed and optimized for the simultaneous determination of seven carboxylates (trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid (CDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), N-(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine-N,N′,N′-triacetic acid (HEDTA), nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), 1,3-diaminopropane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid (PDTA) and triethylenetetraaminehexaacetic acid (TTHA)) as copper complexes. The method development was carried out by using a fused silica capillary. Background electrolyte (BGE) was optimized and the best separation a…
Vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles mimic vanadium haloperoxidases and thwart biofilm formation
2012
Marine biofouling—the colonization of small marine microorganisms on surfaces that are directly exposed to seawater, such as ships' hulls—is an expensive problem that is currently without an environmentally compatible solution1. Biofouling leads to increased hydrodynamic drag, which, in turn, causes increased fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Tributyltin-free antifouling coatings and paints1, 2, 3, 4 based on metal complexes or biocides have been shown to efficiently prevent marine biofouling. However, these materials can damage5 the environment through metal leaching (for example, of copper and zinc)6 and bacteria resistance7. Here, we show that vanadium pentoxide nanowires ac…
A denuder-impinger system with in situ derivatization followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for the determination of gaseous iodine-contai…
2008
Reactive iodine species have been suggested to play an important role in the atmosphere (e.g. tropospheric ozone depletion, coastal new particle formation). However, there still exist major uncertainties about their atmospheric chemistry, mostly due to the lack of analytical approaches for the accurate speciation of certain key compounds. In this study, 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene (1,3,5-TMB)-coated denuder proved to be suitable for the differentiation between gaseous interhalogens (iodine monochloride (ICl), iodine monobromide (IBr)) and molecular iodine (I2) based on a selective collection/derivatization method. The results of the denuder sampling were compared with the results of impinger sa…
Drug Screening Boosted by Hyperpolarized Long-Lived States in NMR
2014
International audience; : Transverse and longitudinal relaxation times (T1ρ and T1 ) have been widely exploited in NMR to probe the binding of ligands and putative drugs to target proteins. We have shown recently that long-lived states (LLS) can be more sensitive to ligand binding. LLS can be excited if the ligand comprises at least two coupled spins. Herein we broaden the scope of ligand screening by LLS to arbitrary ligands by covalent attachment of a functional group, which comprises a pair of coupled protons that are isolated from neighboring magnetic nuclei. The resulting functionalized ligands have longitudinal relaxation times T1 ((1) H) that are sufficiently long to allow the powerf…
Panniculitis due to potassium bromide.
1998
Potassium bromide again is well known to be surprisingly effective in patients with severe myoclonic epilepsy in infants (SME). Rare side effects on the skin reappeared, such as the febrile nodular panniculitis (Weber-Christian syndrome). In 1993 we described the first three cases of necrotizing panniculitis and introduced the term 'halogen panniculitis'. It is a systemic disease with crops of subcutaneous nodules, fever, elevated sedimentation rate, hepatosplenomegalia, and abdominal pain. Later severe necrosis of the skin and adipose tissue may happen with deep ulcerations. History and course of five cases, described in this paper, suggest either an allergy or toxic reason. Histologic pic…
