Longitudinal study of age and order of eruption of primary teeth in Indian children

2010

Objective: To determine the chronological eruption parameters of primary teeth in Indian children. Study Design: A longitudinal study consisting of 135 healthy children (74 boys and 61 girls) attending three child health centres in the city of Hyderabad, India were randomly selected and followed from the emergence of the first to the last tooth. Ages and order of tooth eruption were studied for both genders. Results: Boys showed tendency towards earlier eruption for all teeth except maxillary second molar and maxillary/mandibular first molars which erupted earlier in girls. Comparison between maxillary and mandibular showed a tendency to earlier mandibular eruption of central incisors, late…

Mechanical behavior of implant assisted removable partial denture for Kennedy class II

2019

Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T01:22:13Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01 Background: This study evaluated the mechanical response of a removable partial denture (RPD) in Kennedy Class II according to being associated or not with implants. Material and Methods: Four RPDs were manufactured for a Kennedy Class II: CRPD-Conventional RPD, RPD+ 1M, RPD+2M and RPD+12M, respectively, signifying implant assisted RPDs with the implant installed in the first molar, second molar, and in the first and second molars. The finite element method was used to determine the most damaged support tooth under compressive load (300N, 10s) and strain gauge analysis was used to ev…

Effect of orthodontic treatment involving first premolar extractions on mandibular third molar angulation and retromolar space

2016

Background Third molars present more problems than other teeth because they are the last teeth to erupt, and so it is important to assess their development when designing an orthodontic treatment plan. The aim of this study was to compare the angulation of the mandibular third molar and retromolar space before and after orthodontic treatment in cases involving first premolar extraction. Material and methods 76 patients, 59 women (77.63%) and 17 men (22.36%), were recruited from the Orthodontics Clinic at Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla (Mexico). Panoramic radiographs were analyzed before and after orthodontic treatment that included first premolar extractions, measuring retromolar…

Orthodontists? preference on type of rigid fixed functional appliance for skeletal Class II correction : a survey study

2020

Background Rigid fixed functional appliances are most commonly used to correct skeletal Class II malocclusions. The objective of this study was to assess orthodontists' preference of different rigid fixed functional appliances used in the U.S.A for correction of skeletal Class II malocclusions. Material and methods A survey on use and preference of rigid fixed functional appliances for skeletal Class II correction was emailed to 2,227 members of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) in the U.S.A. Frequency distribution of different responses and their association with demographic factors was assessed. Results Out of 140 orthodontists completing the survey, 110 responded as using r…

Dental caries experience, tooth surface distribution and associated factors in 6- and 13- year- old school children from Davangere, India

2012

Objectives: The objective of the present study was to investigate the caries experience and patterns in a sample of 6- and 13- year old school children and to estimate the contributing roles of the likely risk indicators. Study design: Data were obtained from 400 (196, 6-year old and 204, 13-year old) school children. A questionnaire was sent to the children parents to measure socioeconomic, socio-demographic, and behavioral variables. Dental caries detection was performed according to the World Health Organization criteria (dmft and DMFT). The mean dmft/DMFT scores were analysed either as a continuous (calculating means and standard deviations) or as a categorical variable (providing propo…

Photoelastic analysis of conventional and locking system for treatment of mandibular angle fractures with a single plate

2021

Made available in DSpace on 2021-06-25T10:28:10Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-04-01 Background: This photoelastic analysis evaluated stress distribution in different osteosynthesis systems, conventional and locking, used for treatment of mandibular angle fractures with a single plate. Material and Methods: Angle fractures were simulated in mandibles made of photoelastic resin. Following Champy’s method, plate osteosynthesis was performed. The samples were divided into five groups: Group 1, non-fractured mandible; Group 2, two screws were installed in each segment using a conventional system; Group 3, two screws were installed in each segment using a locking system; …

Influence of tooth loss on mandibular morphology : a cone-beam computed tomography study

2019

Background Tooth loss adversely affects patients’ health and psychosocial wellbeing. In addition, it changes mandibular morphology. Objective: To evaluate the effect of tooth loss, age, and gender on mandibular morphology. Material and Methods Cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) scans of 101 patients were examined to measure the gonial angle (GA), ramus height (RH) and condylar height (CH). Patients’ age, gender, and dental status were recorded. Repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to assess the impact of gender, age, and tooth loss on the GA, RH and CH. The mean measurements of the GA, RH and CH were compared between dentate/edentulous patients after splitting by gende…

Active tactile sensibility of three-unit implant-supported FPDs versus natural dentition

2019

Background Splinting of the implants might improve the active tactile sensibility (ATS) of the pontic area due to cumulative effect of Osseo perception of two retainers; on the other hand, due to the lack of any supporting implant in the axis of occlusal force for the pontic area, ATS might be lower for this portion of FPDs. we evaluated the active tactile sensibility of natural teeth and three-unit implant-supported FPDs. Material and methods The ATS of posterior 3-unit implant-supported FPD and contralateral teeth was measured in 50 patients, in a random order blinded to patients and assessor, carried out at two sessions. Based on the experimental range of 0 to 70 um, the sigmoid shape of…

Stress distribution in fixed mandibular prostheses fabricated by CAD/CAM and conventional techniques: Photoelastic and strain gauge analyses

2019

Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T00:55:27Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-09-01 The aim of this study was to evaluate the distribution of stress in complete fixed mandibular prostheses with infrastructures (IE) fabricated with different materials and techniques, under compressive force. A model of an edentulous mandible, which received five 4x11 mm external hexagon implants between the mental foramens, was fabricated. The groups were divided into: Group I - IE in nickel-chromium with an acrylic resin occlusal coating; Group II - IE in nickel-chromium with a ceramic occlusal coating; Group III - IE milled in zirconia with a ceramic coating. For the photoelastic m…

Evaluation of accuracy of various impression techniques and impression materials in recording multiple implants placed unilaterally in a partially ed…

2018

Background Various factors like implant angulation, type of impression material and tray type affects the implant impression accuracy. To date limited in-vitro studies were carried out on the implant impression accuracy of unilateral partially edentulous arches. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of 0o, 15o and 25o implant angulations on impression accuracy in simulated master casts of unilateral partially edentulous situation using different impression materials and tray selections. Material and Methods 30 replicas (N = 30) of a resin matrix (control) containing four implant analogues placed unilaterally from the midline till the region of second molar at an angulation of…
