Halloysite Nanotubes Loaded with Calcium Hydroxide: Alkaline Fillers for the Deacidification of Waterlogged Archeological Woods

2018

A novel green protocol for the deacidifying consolidation of waterlogged archaeological woods through aqueous dispersions of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 1500 and halloysite nanotubes containing calcium hydroxide has been designed. First, we prepared functionalized halloysite nanotubes filled with Ca(OH)2 in their lumen. The controlled and sustained release of Ca(OH)2 from the halloysite lumen extended its neutralization action over time, allowing the development of a long-term deacidification of the wood samples. A preliminary thermomechanical characterization of clay/polymer nanocomposites allows us to determine the experimental conditions to maximize the consolidation efficiency of the wood…

Metallic artefacts from Monte Molião (Lagos, Portugal) : the roman clothing elements

2020

Comparison of the planimetry and point-counting methods for the assessment of the size of the mandible cysts on orthopantomograms

2011

Sahin, Bunyamin/0000-0001-8538-8443 WOS: 000304343300015 PubMed: 22143725 Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the computer-assisted planimetry and point-counting methods in evaluating the sizes of the mandibular cysts with respect to their agreement and the time required to analyze. Study Design: The surface areas of 46 mandibular cyst lesions on orthopantomograms were estimated using the point-counting and computer-assisted planimetry methods. Three observers evaluated the outlined areas twice, using the point-counting (PC) and computer-assisted planimetry (CAP) methods with an interval of two weeks. In the planimetry technique, digitalized images and ImageJ software were us…

Ar. fr. *322 K.-A.: parodia de lenguaje médico

2010

In this paper the author tries to point out the relations between an Aristophanic Fragment (Ar. fr. *322 K.-A.) and vocabulary from Medicine, in order to search for parody and comical purposes, mainly comically parody of violence.

Influence of the metabolic syndrome on aortic stiffness in never treated hypertensive patients

2004

Summary Background and aim Metabolic syndrome (MS) carries an increased risk for cardiovascular events and there is a growing awareness that large artery stiffening is a powerful predictor of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Little is known about the relationship of MS with aortic stiffness. The aim of our study was to analyze, in patients with essential hypertension, the influence of MS, defined according to the criteria proposed by the Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (NCEP-ATP III), on carotid–femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), a measure of aortic stiffness. Methods N…

[PP.07.19] ASSOCIATION OF MAXIMUM SPEED OF BLOOD PRESSURE RISE DURING 24-H ABPM WITH SUBCLINICAL RENAL DAMAGE IN ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION

2017

Objective: Experimental studies documented that the mechanical injury of intravascular pressure on the vessel wall, which results in vascular remodelling and atherosclerosis, may be more closely associated to oscillatory than to steady laminar shear stress This suggests that the hypertensive patient's prognosis may depend not only on average BP level but also on the degree and rate of BP variation. Little is known about the relationships between early renal abnormalities and the rate of BP changes assessed by intermittent 24-h ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM). Our study was aimed to analyse the relationships between subclinical renal damage (SRD), defined as the presence of microalbuminuria …

European society of hypertension position paper on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

2013

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is being used increasingly in both clinical practice and hypertension research. Although there are many guidelines that emphasize the indications for ABPM, there is no comprehensive guideline dealing with all aspects of the technique. It was agreed at a consensus meeting on ABPM in Milan in 2011 that the 34 attendees should prepare a comprehensive position paper on the scientific evidence for ABPM.This position paper considers the historical background, the advantages and limitations of ABPM, the threshold levels for practice, and the cost-effectiveness of the technique. It examines the need for selecting an appropriate device, the accuracy of dev…

The hyperfine structure in the rotational spectrum of CF+

2012

Context. CF+ has recently been detected in the Horsehead and Orion Bar photo-dissociation regions. The J=1-0 line in the Horsehead is double-peaked in contrast to other millimeter lines. The origin of this double-peak profile may be kinematic or spectroscopic. Aims. We investigate the effect of hyperfine interactions due to the fluorine nucleus in CF+ on the rotational transitions. Methods. We compute the fluorine spin rotation constant of CF+ using high-level quantum chemical methods and determine the relative positions and intensities of each hyperfine component. This information is used to fit the theoretical hyperfine components to the observed CF+ line profiles, thereby employing the h…

OBSERVATION OF THE TeV GAMMA-RAY SOURCE MGRO J1908+06 WITH ARGO-YBJ

2012

The extended gamma ray source MGRO J1908+06, discovered by the Milagro air shower detector in 2007, has been observed for about 4 years by the ARGO-YBJ experiment at TeV energies, with a statistical significance of 6.2 standard deviations. The peak of the signal is found at a position consistent with the pulsar PSR J1907+0602. Parametrizing the source shape with a two-dimensional Gauss function we estimate an extension \sigma = 0.49 \pm 0.22 degrees, consistent with a previous measurement by the Cherenkov Array H.E.S.S.. The observed energy spectrum is dN/dE = 6.1 \pm 1.4 \times 10^-13 (E/4 TeV)^{-2.54 \pm 0.36} photons cm^-2 s^-1 TeV^-1, in the energy range 1-20 TeV. The measured gamma ray…

On obtaining neutron star mass and radius constraints from quiescent low-mass X-ray binaries in the Galactic plane

2018

X-ray spectral analysis of quiescent low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) has been one of the most common tools to measure the radius of neutron stars (NSs) for over a decade. So far, this method has been mainly applied to NSs in globular clusters, primarily because of their well-constrained distances. Here, we study Chandra data of seven transient LMXBs in the Galactic plane in quiescence to investigate the potential of constraining the radius (and mass) of the NSs inhabiting these systems. We find that only two of these objects had X-ray spectra of sufficient quality to obtain reasonable constraints on the radius, with the most stringent being an upper limit of $R\lesssim$14.5 km for EXO 0748-…
