Wardowski conditions to the coincidence problem

2015

In this article we first discuss the existence and uniqueness of a solution for the coincidence problem: Find p ∈ X such that Tp = Sp, where X is a nonempty set, Y is a complete metric space, and T, S:X → Y are two mappings satisfying a Wardowski type condition of contractivity. Later on, we will state the convergence of the Picard-Juncgk iteration process to the above coincidence problem as well as a rate of convergence for this iteration scheme. Finally, we shall apply our results to study the existence and uniqueness of a solution as well as the convergence of the Picard-Juncgk iteration process toward the solution of a second order differential equation. Taxonomy of correlations of wind velocity;an application to the Sicilian area.

2008

Abstract We present an algorithm that allows us to analyze the cross-correlation of wind velocity measured in different locations; this algorithm is applied to 29 recording stations in Sicily. The results show that such correlations present a significant and persistent ultrametric structure that is influenced by the geographical neighborhood as well as by the presence of mountain and the sea. The algorithm presented, that is also able to reveal weak correlations, can be used as a starting point for the development of multivariate models of wind.

An extended continuous mapping theorem for outer almost sure weak convergence

2019

International audience; We prove an extended continuous mapping theorem for outer almost sure weak convergence in a metric space, a notion that is used in bootstrap empirical processes theory. Then we make use of those results to establish the consistency of several bootstrap procedures in empirical likelihood theory for functional parameters.

Quasiadditivity of Variational Capacity

2013

We study the quasiadditivity property (a version of superadditivity with a multiplicative constant) of variational capacity in metric spaces with respect to Whitney type covers. We characterize this property in terms of a Mazya type capacity condition, and also explore the close relation between quasiadditivity and Hardy's inequality.

On bounds for total absolute curvature of surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space

2003

Abstract We construct examples of surfaces in hyperbolic space which do not satisfy the Chern–Lashof inequality (which holds for immersed surfaces in Euclidean space). To cite this article: R. Langevin, G. Solanes, C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 336 (2003).

Abstract We extend the classical Carathéodory extension theorem to quasiconformal Jordan domains (Y, dY ). We say that a metric space (Y, dY ) is a quasiconformal Jordan domain if the completion ̄Y of (Y, dY ) has finite Hausdorff 2-measure, the boundary ∂Y = ̄Y \ Y is homeomorphic to 𝕊1, and there exists a homeomorphism ϕ: 𝔻 →(Y, dY ) that is quasiconformal in the geometric sense. We show that ϕ has a continuous, monotone, and surjective extension Φ: 𝔻 ̄ → Y ̄. This result is best possible in this generality. In addition, we find a necessary and sufficient condition for Φ to be a quasiconformal homeomorphism. We provide sufficient conditions for the restriction of Φ to 𝕊1 being a quasi…

Sustainable Development and the Practice of Spatial Planning: A Proposal of Criteria for Measuring the Overall Sustainability of Planning Actions in …

2021

The sustainable city debate is gaining ground in recent years, featuring as a prominent issue in several policy documents of the European Commission, and enjoying support by the main organisations and institutions at international level. At the same time, improving local governance standards by involving citizens in local decision-making is a recurring issue in the debate on local democracy and enhancement of community cohesion. This paper presents an analysis of the European experience and best practice relating sustainable development to the day-to-day practice of spatial planning. The overall purpose is creating a proposal of indicators for measuring the sustainability of planning action…

Fixed point results on metric-type spaces

2014

Abstract In this paper we obtain fixed point and common fixed point theorems for self-mappings defined on a metric-type space, an ordered metric-type space or a normal cone metric space. Moreover, some examples and an application to integral equations are given to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.

Some new extensions of Edelstein-Suzuki-type fixed point theorem to G-metric and G-cone metric spaces

2013

Abstract In this paper, we prove some fixed point theorems for generalized contractions in the setting of G -metric spaces. Our results extend a result of Edelstein [M. Edelstein, On fixed and periodic points under contractive mappings, J. London Math. Soc., 37 (1962), 74–79] and a result of Suzuki [T. Suzuki, A new type of fixed point theorem in metric spaces, Nonlinear Anal., 71 (2009), 5313–5317]. We prove, also, a fixed point theorem in the setting of G -cone metric spaces.
