Structural control on the presence and character of calas: Observations from Balearic Islands limestones rock coast macroforms

Calas are characteristic embayed rocky coastline landforms related to steep-sided drowned valleys that were deeply incised during low sea-level stages into carbonate plateaus. This paper studies the factors that control the presence and character of calas in three different islands of the Balearic Archipelago (Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera) by means of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) reconstructions, embayment and catchment morphometric analysis and through the compilation of fault and joint orientations. Small ammonoid assemblages are recorded from the Perapertú Formation in northern Palencia. This is a mudstone unit with local platform limestones characterised by carbonate debris flows on the limestone margins. Afin de mieux comprendre la dynamique des flux de circulation des matériaux métalliques, il nous a semblé important d'aller au-delà des cartes de répartition classiques des découvertes archéologiques. Nous proposons donc d'utiliser un mode de représentation graphique plus quantitatif et synthétique, l'anamorphose linéaire, pour simuler ces flux de " circulation ". L'anamorphose est une transformation cartographique qui permet de révéler des tendances. Concrètement, il s'agit de dénombrer puis de représenter graphiquement la fréquence des découvertes faites de part et d'autre d'un axe fluvial et selon un " pas " choisi. Italy is one of the country more exposed to coasts erosion: about 1200 km of coasts on about 8350 km are moved back of about 25 m in the last 50 years. Particularly Sicily have about 300 km of coasts moved back. There are various reasons of this phenomenon: natural factor (climatic or physical-oceanographic) with environmental and economic effects.
