Skeletal dysplasias with metaphyseal involvement show radiological changes which permit their classification. There are, however, changes in the cartilage which could be demonstrated by hip sonography in two children, one with Stickler's syndrome and the other with metaphyseal chondrodysplasia. The dangers of mis-diagnosis are discussed.

Abstract Objective. To provide data on the normal distribution of cartilage thickness in the knee joints of old-aged individuals. Design. The accuracy and reproducibility of cartilage thickness measurements were evaluated with A-mode ultrasound, and the cartilage thickness distribution was examined throughout both knee joints of nine individuals aged between 62 and 94 yr. Background. Data on the variation of cartilage thickness in the joint surfaces are relevant for the design of computer models of diathrodial joints and for surgical and arthroscopic procedures, particularly the calculation of cartilage material properties from indentation tests. Post-synovectomy changes in the articular cartilage

Synovectomy of the left knee was performed in 37 immature rabbits, using the right knee for control. In the first set of experiments the articular cartilage was examined at weekly intervals for 8 weeks following the operation, paying particular attention to the metachromatic changes in the ground substance of the cartilage. In the second set of experiments, restoration of synovium was examined. In the third and fourth set of experiments, the uptake of S35 by the cartilage was assessed using autoradiography and densitometry. In the fifth set of experiments, alterations in S35 uptake by the chondrocitic cells of the cartilage were studied by electron microscopy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of high-impact exercise on bone mineral mass and strength, and on knee cartilage composition in postmenopausal women with mild knee osteoarthritis (OA). In addition, the association between knee OA and femoral neck bone structural characteristics in women with mild knee radiographic OA and those without radiographic knee OA was studied. Tutkielmani on muodoltaan artikkeligradu, joka koostuu kolmesta artikkelista sekä Johdanto- ja Yhteenveto-luvuista. Ensimmäisessä artikkelissa esittelen narratiivisten tutkimispelien genreä, sen taustaa ja tärkempiä genreen kuuluvia pelejä. Lisäksi luon määritelmän narratiivisten tutkimispelien genrelle osoittamalla yhteisiä ominaispiirteitä kahdeksasta pelistä, joiden katson edustavan kyseistä genreä. This project has three main aims. First, it seeks to rethink space and spatiality from movement. To do this it follows some significant steps of philosophical tradition (Aristotle, Hegel, Heidegger, Merleau Ponty, Derrida, etc.) in an attempt to demonstrate the close relation between the movement of body and the production of space. No space would exist without an original movement producing it: the body comes out of himself, it spaces, and it is precisely in this dislocation that the spatiality is brought into being (Merleau Ponty). Tarkoituksena on tarkastella Jimmy Carterin 23.01.1980 pitämää Kansakunnan tila -puhetta ja 23.03.1980 pidettyä boikottijulistus - puhetta painottaen boikottijulistusta.
