Elements of Significance Testing with Equivalence Problems
1991
AbstractThe paper outlines an approach to the general methodological problem of equivalence assessment which is based on the classical theory of testing statistical hypotheses. Within this frame of reference it is natural to search for decision rules satisfying the same criteria of optimality which are customarily applied in deriving solutions to one- and two-sided testing problems. For three standard situations very frequently encountered in medical applications of statistics, a concise account of such an optimal test for equivalence is presented. It is pointed out that tests based on the well-known principle of confidence interval inclusion are valid in the sense 1 of guaranteeing the pre…
A Criterium for the Strict Positivity of the Density of the Law of a Poisson Process
2011
We translate in semigroup theory our result (Leandre, 1990) giving a necessary condition so that the law of a Markov process with jumps could have a strictly positive density. This result express, that we have to jump in a finite number of jumps in a "submersive" way from the starting point to the end point if the density of the jump process is strictly positive in . We use the Malliavin Calculus of Bismut type of (Leandre, (2008;2010)) translated in semi-group theory as a tool, and the interpretation in semi-group theory of some classical results of the stochastic analysis for Poisson process as, for instance, the formula giving the law of a compound Poisson process.

Geometric interpretation of the optimality conditions in multifacility location and applications
1991
Geometrical optimality conditions are developed for the minisum multifacility location problem involving any norm. These conditions are then used to derive sufficient conditions for coincidence of facilities at optimality; an example is given to show that these coincidence conditions seem difficult to generalize.

Invariance spectrale des algèbres d'opérateurs pseudodifférentiels
2002
We construct and study several algebras of pseudodifferential operators that are closed under holomorphic functional calculus. This leads to a better understanding of the structure of inverses of elliptic pseudodifferential operators on certain non-compact manifolds. It also leads to decay properties for the solutions of these operators. To cite this article: R. Lauter et al., C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 334 (2002) 1095–1099.

The role of virtual work in Levi-Civita's parallel transport
2015
The current literature on history of science reports that Levi-Civita’s parallel transport was motivated by his attempt to provide the covariant derivative of the absolute differential calculus with a geometrical interpretation (For instance, see Scholz in The intersection of history and mathematics, Birkhauser, Basel, pp 203–230, 1994, Sect. 4). Levi-Civita’s memoir on the subject was explicitly aimed at simplifying the geometrical computation of the curvature of a Riemannian manifold. In the present paper, we wish to point out the possible role implicitly played by the principle of virtual work in Levi-Civita’s conceptual reasoning to formulate parallel transport.
