Negative results in the theory of games with lexicographic utilities
2003
When players may have lexicographic utilities, there are: (i) extensive games having a non-empty set of equilibria but empty sets of sequentially rational, sequential and perfect equilibria (ii) normal form games having a non-empty set of equilibria but an empty set of proper equilibria and no stable set of equilibria and (iii) two extensive games having the same normal form representation and disjoint sets of sequential equilibria.
Some decisional problems on rational relations
1997
Abstract In this paper we prove that the problem of deciding whether a deterministic rational relation is star-free is recursively solvable, although the same problem for any rational relation is undecidable. We also prove that a rational relation is star-free if and only if it is aperiodic and deterministic.
An overview of semi-infinite programming theory and related topics through a generalization of the alternative theorems
1984
We propose new alternative theorems for convex infinite systems which constitute the generalization of the corresponding toGale, Farkas, Gordan andMotzkin. By means of these powerful results we establish new approaches to the Theory of Infinite Linear Inequality Systems, Perfect Duality, Semi-infinite Games and Optimality Theory for non-differentiable convex Semi-Infinite Programming Problem.
Nanocomposites based on esterified colophony and halloysite clay nanotubes as consolidants for waterlogged archaeological woods
2017
We have designed an innovative protocol for the consolidation of waterlogged archaeological woods by using acetone mixtures of halloysite clay nanotubes and a chemically modified colophony (Rosin). Firstly, we have investigated the thermal properties of HNTs/Rosin nanocomposites, which have been prepared by means of the casting method from acetone. The HNTs content have been systematically changed in order to study the influence of the inorganic filler on the thermal stability and glass transition process of Rosin. We have observed that the thermal properties of the hybrids are affected by the specific HNTs/Rosin interactions. Then, acetone dispersions of HNTs/Rosin composites at variable f…
Novel Ni(II) Mixed Ligand Complex Modified Electrode: Catalytic Effect on Anodic Oxidation of Phenol
2004
Cyclic voltammetry, using graphite paste electrode (GPE) and chemically modified GPE with Ni(II) mixed ligand complex (MGPE), is described for sensing and detoxification of phenol. A novel mixed ligand complex of nickel with 1,4,8,11-tetraaza cyclotetradecane (cyclam) and thiocyanate in the molar ratio of 1 : 2 : 5 is synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical studies. The Ni(II)-cyclam-thiocyanate complex behaves as a fast electron-transfer mediator, as nickel ions exist in higher oxidation state of Ni(III) on applying a potential of 1.25 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), which catalyses the oxidation of the target species. The mixed ligand complex, when incorporated in the graphite…
Perturbation of spermine synthase Gene Expression and Transcript Profiling Provide New Insights on the Role of the Tetraamine Spermine in Arabidopsis…
2011
The role of the tetraamine spermine in plant defense against pathogens was investigated by using the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana)-Pseudomonas viridiflava pathosystem. The effects of perturbations of plant spermine levels on susceptibility to bacterial infection were evaluated in transgenic plants (35S::spermine synthase [SPMS]) that overexpressed the SPMS gene and accumulated spermine, as well as in spms mutants with low spermine levels. The former exhibited higher resistance to P. viridiflava than wild-type plants, while the latter were more susceptible. Exogenous supply of spermine to wild-type plants also increased disease resistance. Increased resistance provided by spermine was p…
On Słowikowski, Raíkov and De Wilde Closed Graph Theorems
1986
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the Slowikowski, Raikov and De Wilde closed graph theorems. The vector spaces used in the chapter, are defined over the field Ղ of real or complex numbers. The term, “space” means separated topological vector space, unless the contrary is specifically stated. If Ω is a non-empty open subset of the n -dimensional euclidean space, then the Schwartz space ҟ′(Ω) endowed with the strong topology belongs to this class. The chapter also studies the classes of spaces related with this conjecture. The class of Slowikowski spaces contains the F-spaces and it is stable with respect to the operations that include: countable topological direct sums, closed subsp…
Potential of the Bacillus thuringiensis Toxin Reservoir for the Control of Lobesia botrana (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), a Major Pest of Grape Plants▿
2006
ABSTRACT The potential of Bacillus thuringiensis Cry proteins to control the grape pest Lobesia botrana was explored by testing first-instar larvae with Cry proteins belonging to the Cry1, Cry2, and Cry9 groups selected for their documented activities against Lepidoptera. Cry9Ca, a toxin from B. thuringiensis , was the protein most toxic to L. botrana larvae, followed in decreasing order by Cry2Ab, Cry1Ab, Cry2Aa, and Cry1Ia7, with 50% lethal concentration values of 0.09, 0.1, 1.4, 3.2, and 8.5 μg/ml of diet, respectively. In contrast, Cry1Fa and Cry1JA were not active at the assayed concentration (100 μg/ml). In vitro binding and competition experiments showed that none of the toxins teste…
The Best Hedging Strategy in the Presence of Transaction Costs
2009
Considerable theoretical work has been devoted to the problem of option pricing and hedging with transaction costs. A variety of methods have been suggested and are currently being used for dynamic hedging of options in the presence of transaction costs. However, very little was done on the subject of an empirical comparison of different methods for option hedging with transaction costs. In a few existing studies the different methods are compared by studying their empirical performances in hedging only a plain-vanilla short call option. The reader is tempted to assume that the ranking of the different methods for hedging any kind of option remains the same as that for a vanilla call. The …
European Option Pricing with Transaction Costs and Stochastic Volatility: an Asymptotic Analysis
2015
In this paper the valuation problem of a European call option in presence of both stochastic volatility and transaction costs is considered. In the limit of small transaction costs and fast mean reversion, an asymptotic expression for the option price is obtained. While the dominant term in the expansion it is shown to be the classical Black and Scholes solution, the correction terms appear at $O(\varepsilon^{1/2})$ and $O(\varepsilon)$. The optimal hedging strategy is then explicitly obtained for the Scott's model.
