Role of Seroalbumin in the Cytotoxicity of cis-Dichloro Pt(II) Complexes with (N^N)-Donor Ligands Bearing Functionalized Tails

2018

Given the potent anticancer properties of cisdiamminedichloroplatinum( II) and knowing its mode of action, we synthesized four new cis-[PtCl2(N^N)] organoplatinum complexes, two with N-substituted pbi ligands (pbiR = 1-R-2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole) (namely, 1 and 2) and two more with 4,4′-disubstituted bpy ligands (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) (namely, 3 and 4). We explored their cytotoxicity and ability to bind to deoxyguanosine monophosphate (dGMP), DNA, and albumin models. By 1H NMR and UV−vis spectroscopies, circular dichroism, agarose gel electrophoresis, differential scanning calorimetry measurements, and density functional theory calculations, we verified that only 3 can form aquacomplex s…

Combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of a water-soluble perylene diimide to DNA/RNA polynucleotides and G-quadruplexes.

2021

We present here a combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of N,N’-bis(2-(1-piperazino)ethyl)-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimide dichloride (PZPERY) to different biosubstrates. Absorbance titrations and circular dichroism experiments, melting studies and isothermal calorimetry (ITC) titrations reveal a picture where the binding to natural double-stranded DNA is very different from that to double and triple-stranded RNAs (poly(A)∙poly(U) and poly(U)∙poly(A)⁎poly(U)). As confirmed also by the structural and energetic details clarified by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, intercalation occurs for DNA, with a process driven by the combination of aggr…

Cytotoxic hydrophilic iminophosphorane coordination compounds of d8 metals. Studies of their interactions with DNA and HSA

2012

The synthesis and characterization of a new water-soluble N,N-chelating iminophosphorane ligand TPAN-C(O)-2-NC(5)H(4) (N,N-IM) (1) and its d(8) (Au(III), Pd(II) and Pt(II)) coordination complexes are reported. The structures of cationic [AuCl(2)(N,N-IM)]ClO(4) (2) and neutral [MCl(2)(N,N-IM)] M=Pd (3), Pt(4) complexes were determined by X-ray diffraction studies or by means of density-functional calculations. While the Pd and Pt compounds are stable in mixtures of DMSO/H(2)O over 4 days, the gold derivative (2) decomposes quickly to TPAO and previously reported neutral gold(III) compound [AuCl(2)(N,N-H)] 5 (containing the chelating N,N-fragment HN-C(O)-2-NC(5)H(4)). The cytotoxicities of co…

Calorimetric and structural investigation of the interaction between bovine serum albumin and high molecular weight dextran in water.

2005

This work studies specific interactions between a small globular protein and a highly flexible, branched polysaccharide using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence, and turbidimetry measurements. It uses the system water/bovine serum albumin (BSA)/dextran (D 2000) as a model. Dextran molecules are able to form interpolymeric complexes with BSA in water at both low and high temperatures if the polysaccharide is in excess and if the protein exists in its associated state. It leads to a partial destabilization of the secondary and tertiary structures of the protein and an additional exposure of the hydrophobic tryptophan residues to the surface of globu…

PyDSC: a simple tool to treat differential scanning calorimetry data

2020

AbstractHerein, we describe an open-source, Python-based, script to treat the output of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments, called pyDSC, available free of charge for download at https://github.com/leonardo-chiappisi/pyDSC under a GNU General Public License v3.0. The main aim of this program is to provide the community with a simple program to analyze raw DSC data. Key features include the correction from spurious signals, and, most importantly, the baseline is computed with a robust, physically consistent approach. We also show that the baseline correction routine implemented in the script is significantly more reproducible than different standard ones proposed by propriet…

On the use of PET-LCP copolymers as compatibilizers for PET/LCP blends

1996

Copolyesters of poly[ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP), SBH 1:1:2, have been synthesized by the polycondensation, carried out in the melt at temperatures up to 300 degrees C of sebacic acid (S), 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl (B), and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (H) in the presence of PET. The PET-SBH copolyesters have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, etc., and the relationships between properties and preparation conditions are discussed. The copolyesters show a biphasic nature, which is more evident for the products synthesized with a thermal profile comprising relatively lower temperatures (220-…

Improving thermoelectric performance of TiNiSn by mixing MnNiSb in the half-Heusler structure

2016

The thermoelectric properties of n type semiconductor, TiNiSn is optimized by partial substitution with metallic, MnNiSb in the half Heusler structure. Herein, we study the transport properties and intrinsic phase separation in the system. The Ti1-xMnxNiSn1-xSbx alloys were prepared by arc-melting and were annealed at temperatures obtained from differential thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry results. The phases were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction patterns, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. After annealing the majority phase was TiNiSn with some Ni rich sites and the minority phases was majorly Ti6Sn5, Sn, and MnSn2…

Transition of laser-induced terahertz spin currents from torque- to conduction-electron-mediated transport

2022

Spin transport is crucial for future spintronic devices operating at bandwidths up to the terahertz range. In F|N thin-film stacks made of a ferromagnetic/ferrimagnetic layer F and a normal-metal layer N, spin transport is mediated by (1) spin-polarized conduction electrons and/or (2) torque between electron spins. To identify a crossover from (1) to (2), we study laser-driven spin currents in F|Pt stacks where F consists of model materials with different degrees of electrical conductivity. For the magnetic insulators yttrium iron garnet, gadolinium iron garnet (GIG) and γ−Fe2O3, identical dynamics is observed. It arises from the terahertz interfacial spin Seebeck effect (SSE), is fully det…

Thermodynamic properties at the phase transition of Pb(Zr, Sn, Ti)O3solid solutions

2000

Abstract Field induced deformation and electrocaloric effect are investigated in the vicinity of phase transition at 163°C. The sharp increase of electrostriction below Tc is explained by the field induced ferroelectric to antiferroelectric phase transition. The antiferroelectric phase appears and remains stable below Tc in the absence of field. Elastic compliance and thermal expansion as functions of temperature are studied.

Phase transitions of Pb0.99Nb0.02(Zr0.75Sn0.20Ti0.05)O3ceramics

2001

Abstract The dielectric, elastic and electromechanical properties, electrocaloric effect and thermal expansion of poled and depoled Pb0.99Nb0.02(Zr0.75Sn0.20Ti0.05)O3 samples are presented to evaluate the nature of polar phases existing in the solid solution above room temperature. The Kittel's free energy expansion is used to explain some essential features of physical properties.
