The Kleiner Feldberg Cloud Experiment 1990. An overview

An overview is given of the Kleiner Feldberg cloud experiment performed from 27 October until 13 November 1990. The experiment was carried out by numerous European research groups as a joint effort within the EUROTRAC-GCE project in order to study the interaction of cloud droplets with atmospheric trace constituents. After a description of the observational site and the measurements which were performed, the general cloud formation mechanisms encountered during the experiment are discussed. "Travailler plus pour gagner plus". Análisis cultural de un lema de la campaña presidencial francesa del 2007

“Travailler plus pour gagner plus” (“Work more to earn more”) was a slogan of right-wing candidate Nicolas Sarkozy during the 2007 French presidential election, which proposed exempting overtime working hours from taxation. In this article, I develop a cultural analysis of this political slogan. Its linguistic interest lies in its poetic and theatrical dimensions. The slogan is embedded in a rich cultural context: it refers to a doxa in right-wing discourse, according to which the “social model” should be replaced with a liberal model that also rescues the “value of work”. Welcome aboard: are birds migrating across the Mediterranean Sea using ships as stopovers during adverse weather conditions?

Birds use stopovers during migration to interrupt endurance flight in order to minimize immediate and/or future fitness costs. Stopovers on ships is considered an exceptional and anecdotal event in the ornithological literature. This does not match the experience we had in the summer of 2021, during an oceanographic campaign in the Central Mediterranean, when we regularly observed on average 2.8 birds, of at least 13 species, stopping on board during the 25 days of the campaign. The median stopping time was 42 min, ranging from a few minutes to overnight stays on board. The probability of finding a bird stopping aboard increased with wind force and cloud cover.
