Geometric quantization in the presence of an electromagnetic field
1983
Some aspects of the formalism of geometric quantization are described emphasizing the role played by the symmetry group of the quantum system which, for the free particle, turns out to be a central extensionG(m) of the Galilei groupG. The resulting formalism is then applied to the case of a particle interacting with the electromagnetic field, which appears as a necessary modification of the connection 1-form of the quantum bundle when its invariance group is generalized to alocal extension ofG. Finally, the quantization of the electric charge in the presence of a Dirac monopole is also briefly considered.
Topological Hopf Algebras, Quantum Groups and Deformation Quantization
2019
After a presentation of the context and a brief reminder of deformation quantization, we indicate how the introduction of natural topological vector space topologi es on Hopf algebras associated with Poisson Lie groups, Lie bialgebras and their doubles explains their dualities a nd provides a comprehensive framework. Relations with deformation quantization and applications to the deformation quantization of symmetric spaces are described.
L'azione del gruppo simplettico associata ad un'estensione quadratica di campi
2000
Given a quadratic extension L/K of fields and a regular alternating space (V; f) of finite dimension over L, we classify K-subspaces of V which do not split into the orthogonal sum of two proper K-subspaces. This allows one to determine the orbits of the group Sp_L(V; f) in the set of K-subspaces of V.
Unitary groups acting on hyperbolic substructures
2005
Given a quadratic extension L/K of fields and a regular l-Hermitian space (V,h) of finite dimension over L, we study the orbits of the group of isometries of (V,h) in the set of hyperbolic K-substructures of V.
Microtremor Measurements in the City of Palermo, Italy: Analysis of the Correlation between Local Geology and Damage
2008
Abstract This study presents the results of 90 seismic ambient noise measurements in Palermo, the main city of Sicily (Italy). The dataset has been processed using the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVNSR) technique and interpreted in terms of local geology, which is characterized by the presence of alluvial sediments of two riverbeds masked by urbanization since the seventeenth century. HVNSRs show significant variations in the study area: when the transition stiff to soft is crossed, a typical spectral peak appears in the HVNSRs, mostly in the frequency band 1–2 Hz, and exceeding a factor of 3 in amplitude. Using available information on subsurface geological structure, we compute…

Scale-related patterns in the spatial and environmental components of stream macroinvertebrate assemblage variation
2007
Aim We examined the relative contributions of spatial gradients and local environmental conditions to macroinvertebrate assemblages of boreal headwater streams at three hierarchical extents: bioregion, ecoregion and drainage system. We also aimed to identify the environmental variables most strongly related to assemblage structure at each study scale, and to assess how the importance of these variables is related to regional context and spatial structuring at different scales. Location Northern Finland (62–68° N, 25–32° E). Methods Variation in macroinvertebrate data was partitioned using partial canonical correspondence analysis into components explained by spatial variables (nine terms…
MODELLI E STRUMENTI DI GOVERNANCE PUBBLICA DEL FENOMENO RELIGIOSO NEL SUBCONTINENTE AMERICANO
2020
Phase behaviour of heteronuclear dimers in three-dimensional systems—a Monte Carlo study
2008
Monte Carlo simulation in the grand canonical ensemble, the histogram reweighting technique and finite size scaling are used to study the phase behaviour of dimers in three-dimensional systems. A single molecule is composed of two segments A and B, and the bond between them cannot be broken. The phase diagrams have been estimated for a set of model systems. Different structures formed by heteronuclear dimers have been found. The results show a great variety of vapour–liquid coexistence behaviour depending on the strength of the interactions between segments.
The Principles of Canonical Mechanics
2010
Canonical mechanics is a central part of general mechanics, where one goes beyond the somewhat narrow framework of Newtonian mechanics with position coordinates in the three-dimensional space, towards a more general formulation of mechanical systems belonging to a much larger class. This is the first step of abstraction, leaving behind ballistics, satellite orbits, inclined planes, and pendulum-clocks; it leads to a new kind of description that turns out to be useful in areas of physics far beyond mechanics. Through d’Alembert’s principle we discover the concept of the Lagrangian function and the framework of Lagrangian mechanics that is built onto it. Lagrangian functions are particularly …
