Multichannel integration through innovation capability in manufacturing SMEs and its impact on performance
2021
Purpose Using online channels is an opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing industry to reach new markets and reduce the dependency on distributors. The challenge remains that of integrating new online channels into existing networks effectively. This paper aims to identify to what extent multichannel integration is enhanced by the innovation capability of manufacturing SMEs and the subsequent influence on their performance. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected by means of a survey aimed at managers of small manufacturing firms in Mexico and were analysed through an advanced partial least squares (PLS) approach via SmartPLS. Findings Manufa…
Study of Snowboard Sandwich Structures
2005
The aim of the present research is to extend the knowledge of mechanical properties both on single components and on complete structure employed for snowboard. Flexural and torsion tests are performed to acquire important comparison parameters between snowboard sandwich structures that differ for the core material employed (wood, PVC foam core). A simplified FEM model is proposed to simulate the flexural tests of the sandwich structure showing good predictive capability.
Promoting Capabilities with a Drama Workshop among Foster Care Adolescents
2021
We assessed the impacts of a drama-based 13-session workshop among adolescents (N = 8) residing in a reform school due to severe conduct problems. The participants were interviewed three times duri...
Urban growth (1956-2012) and soil sealing in the metropolitan area of Valencia (Eastern Spain)
2019
[EN] The aim of this study is to understand the urban growth dynamics from the mid-1950s to 2012 in the Metropolitan Area of Valencia, eastern Spain, and its impact on soils. The study area is a very interesting example of the many changes in land use and land cover in the landscape of Mediterranean alluvial plains. The analysis of urban growth was based on photo interpretation of aerial photographs and GIS based methodology. At a detailed scale (1:10,000), results show that there has been a highly dynamic process produced by the extent of land developed as urban area. In 1956 only 3,441 hectares (9.3% of the overall study area) were occupied by urban use. In 2012 the total sealed surface w…
Capability-based Communication Analysis for Enterprise Modelling
2018
Capability-oriented enterprise modelling can provide effective solutions to face changing business context. In the business domain, the notion of capability has gained a lot of attention since it guides the activities of service specification and design. Simultaneously, the research community has been promoting the integration of model-driven development (MDD) approaches with enterprise modelling to support the link between enterprise and software specifications. This integration has becoming vital to ensure the traceability of enterprise models and software implementations, acceleration of software time to market, quality assurance, and enterprise model evolution support. The capability-dr…

Latvia. Human Development Report 2004/2005: Human Capability in the Regions
2005
The purpose of the publication is to look at human development as the expansion of opportunities for human activities and capability. So far, the Human Development Reports of Latvia have analysed important components of this process (human security, partnership among the individual, the state and the private sector, and social cohesion) and have researched social processes (globalisation, social integration during a transition period, etc.) that significantly affect human development. This Report assesses the progress of human development in the regions.
Rate capability of a cryogenic stopping cell for uranium projectile fragments produced at 1000 MeV/u
2016
At the Low-Energy Branch (LEB) of the Super-FRS at FAIR, projectile and fission fragments will be produced at relativistic energies, separated in-flight, energy-bunched, slowed down and thermalized in a cryogenic stopping cell (CSC) filled with ultra-pure He gas. The fragments are extracted from the stopping cell using a combination of DC and RF electric fields and gas flow. A prototype CSC for the LEB has been developed and successfully commissioned at the FRS Ion Catcher at GSI. Ionization of He buffer gas atoms during the stopping of energetic ions creates a region of high space charge in the stopping cell. The space charge decreases the extraction efficiency of stopping cells since the …
Environmental Management Maturity: The Role of Dynamic Validation
2020
Maturity models enhance the performance of companies by prescribing a trajectory through stages of increasing capability. However, a recent review of maturity models concludes that current maturity models hardly meet the design principles required for prescriptive use. To address this deficiency, we conducted semistructured interviews and a Group Model Building study with industrial companies in Spain in which we studied the progression toward a Leading Green Company as the highest maturity stage of environmental management. The findings from the study were tested using surveys with enterprises in Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom, semistructured interviews in the United Kingdom and cas…
Analysing participatory video through the capability approach. A case study in Quart de Poblet (Valencia, Spain)
2017
The aim of this paper is to analyse participatory video as a participatory action research method through the lenses of the capability approach. In order to do this, we used a participatory video experience that took place in the municipality of Quart de Poblet (Valencia, Spain) from February to March 2014. The participants were 11 young people between 16 and 24 years of age, severely affected by the economic crisis that has hit Spain in recent years. To develop our analysis, we introduced the participatory video as a technique and a process within the participatory action research methods. Then, we analysed the participatory process to verify the extent to which it had contributed to expan…
