Empowerment as an affective-discursive technology in contemporary capitalism: insights from a play
2019
Over recent years, an increasing body of research in social and cultural studies has investigated the contemporary processes of social change from the point of view of affective capitalism. In this article, we take under scrutiny one of its technologies, namely, empowerment, by which we mean a state characterised by feelings of strength, ability and power that enable agency. More specifically, we investigate the way empowerment is presented in a cultural product, a play that tells a story about personnel training in a factory, shown in a city theatre in Finland. Corporate Governance Theories: From Micro Theories to National Systems Theories
2004
The objective of this article is to conduct a survey of the different corporate governance theories. In the first part, we present the micro theories by opposing the disciplinary view to the knowledge-based view. The second part deals with the macro or national systems theories. Toxic Theisms? New Strategies for Prebunking Religious Belief-Behaviour Complexes
2020
This article offers a brief epidemiological analysis and description of some of the main cognitive (and coalitional) biases that can facilitate the emergence and enable the maintenance of a broad category of toxic traditions, which will be referred to here as “religious” belief-behaviour complexes (BBCs) or “theisms”. However, today the theist credulity and conformity biases that surreptitiously shape these kinds of social assemblages have now becom…
