Objective: To investigate the association between some fertile life characteristics and Parkinson disease (PD) in women. Methods: Women affected by PD and control subjects were matched one to one by age (±2 years). One hundred thirty-one women with idiopathic PD and 131 matched control subjects were interviewed. Background: We conducted the present study to evaluate the impact of stressful events on the onset of depressive disorders in a Spanish clinical sample, compared to a control group matched for age, sex, civil status and social class. We compared our results with those of other studies carried out with samples that were both clinically and culturally similar to ours. Method: Fifty depressed patients that were diagnosed with a depressive episode in the 6 months prior to the interview and 50 healthy controls were included in the study. The results from recent epidemiological studies based on the German Childhood Cancer Registry are summarized.An oecological study covers 16 years' incidence of childhood malignancies in areas surrounding nuclear facilities and in matched control regions. Two population-based case control studies explore potential risk factors of childhood leukaemia in the state of Lower Saxony (1988 93) and in all western states of Germany (1992-94).There was no increased incidence of childhood leukaemia and other malignancies in the vicinity of nuclear installations. Iodine thyroid blocking (ITB) is known to reduce the risk of developing thyroid cancer. Potential adverse effects of ITB have not been systematically investigated so far. This article summarises the results of a review on adverse effects of ITB based on a systematic literature search in scientific medical databases.
