Recurrent pathologies in recently built schools in Palermo,

This topic concerns the most significant pathologies noticed in the facilities being used as schools, which were built in Palermo in the last three decades. Many among these facilities already have undergone major restoration works, while the others are in poor conditions, which remarkably compromise the quality of their utilization. Sober elegance and safety are particularly important whenever a facility is to function as a school, especially if we consider the type of users and the ways of utilization. The academic-practitioner relationship has been alleged to be subject to various tensions and dualities; the divide between academia and practice has even been characterized as unbridgeable. This paper presents a research case of a long-lasting, successful collaboration between a researcher and senior practitioners during a PhD research process. Abstract BACKGROUND: Microvascular involvements represent one of the first steps in many autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in periodontal microcirculation between healthy subjects and patients suffering from RA. METHODS: Thirty healthy subjects and 30 patients suffering from RA were examined. The patients who showed conditions known to compromise microcirculation, such as diabetes, hypertension, pharmacological treatments, were not included in the group of healthy patients. A case-control study on risk factors for nuclear, cortical and posterior subcapsular cataract: The Casteldaccia Eye Study

Purpose: To investigate risk factors for nuclear, cortical and posterior subcapsular age-related cataract. Methods: A case-control study was carried out on subjects aged 40 years and older, living in Casteldaccia, Sicily. Twenty-seven potential risk factors were investigated. Nuclear, cortical and posterior subcapsular opacities of the lens were classified according to the Lens Opacities Classification System II. Subjects with advanced lens opacities represented the cases, while an identical number of subjects without or with early cataract, matched for sex and age, were recruited as controls from within the same population.
