El verb modal deure al segle XIX: modalitat deòntica, evidencialitat inferencial, (inter)subjectivitat i mirativitat

This paper presents a study of the modal construction with the verb deure ('must') in the 19th century, based on two corpora (CIGCM and CTILC). In this century, the modal deure consolidates the inferential evidential value, which had already emerged in Old Catalan (Sentí 2017), and developed maximum subjective values compared with other Romance languages (generic inference and conjecture, cf. Squartini 2008). New pragmatic uses are observed (interrogative sentences) and new intersubjective (Traugott 2003) and mirative uses are discussed. This paper deals with relative clauses that include a resumptive en clitic. Specifically, it deals with relative clauses that have a partitive implicit antecedent. In other words, it is concerned with the type of construction in which the antecedent appears without a nominal nucleus and is headed by a quantifier. This kind of construction has not received much attention from scholars and it has only been dealt with in a very shallow manner and with a range of diverging opinions from the point of view of normative grammar. L'alguerès, a diferencia de les altres varietats del català, presenta la peculiaritat d'afegir una vocal epentètica [i] entre determinades seqüències de mots (un cunyat [i] meu, tots [i] me miren). En aquest treball es descriuen, en primer lloc, les raons que afavoreixen la tria de [i] com a vocal de suport. En segon lloc, s'analitzen els contextos en què apareix aquest element per tal de mostrar que les insercions es dirigeixen a evitar codes sil¿làbiques internes amb un grau elevat de complexitat.

Aquest treball ofereix una introducció a la sintaxi del pronom clític adverbial 'en' en valencià durant el període modern (1601-1832). A partir de les dades que proporciona el Corpus Informatitzat de la Gramàtica del Català Modern (CIGCMod), es planteja una anàlisi quantitativa i qualitativa de l'estat d'ús d'aquest pronom en valencià modern. L'objectiu del treball és contribuir a delimitar el punt d'inflexió entre la productivitat funcional del pronom en català antic i la reducció als usos partitius i inherents en el valencià del segle XX.

Prominence and centralization: a two-way contrast between lexical and epenthetic non-labial high vowels in Algherese Catalan

Algherese Catalan has the peculiarity of presenting an inserted [i] vowel across words in order to avoid certain consonant codas. In this study, we compare five acoustic features of this epenthetic segment (i.e., duration, intensity, and the three first formants) with those of lexical /i/ vowels, both stressed and unstressed. The results indicate that the three vowels present differences only with respect to duration, F2 and, to a lesser extent, F3. The second formant values decline progressively from the lexical stressed vowels to the inserted unstressed segments, with lexical unstressed segments at an intermediate point. In this article the results of a quantitative and qualitative research into person deixis are shown and, generally, the ones related to the participative inscription, within the oral academic genre of the master class. In order to do so, this discursive genre has been contrasted with colloquial oral conversation and academic prose.
