Remarks on the type material of Linaria cavanillesii Chav. (Antirrhineae, Veronicaceae)

2013

ABSTRACT Some aspects concerning the type material of Linaria cavanillesii Chav. (Antirrhineae, Veronicaceae), which are conserved in different herbaria, are discussed. This name had previously been lectotypified on Tournefort's collections that are kept at the herbarium P, though they had been regarded erroneously as syntypes. Evidence is shown on the existence of a duplicate of the lectotype (isolectotype), which is conserved among the Salvador herbarium at BC (Institut Botanic de Barcelona), as well as of syntypes deposited in MA on which the illustration by Cavanilles cited in the protologue was drawn. Historical data are reported on collection sites and dates for all cited syntypes of …

Is Limonium cavanillesii Erben (Plumbaginaceae) really an extant species?

1999

A new triploid apomictic species (Limonium perplexum) is described from a single coastal locality of E Spain. The new species has been previously confused with L cavanillesii Erben, which is only known from few herbarium specimens and it is believed to be extinct. Overall morphology, chromosome number, and the pollen/stigma combination suggest that L perplexum belongs to the L. duriusculum complex. Based on morphological grounds it is suggested that L. cavanillesii Erben could have been originated through a crossing between L perplexum and L dufourii .

Characterisation of clayey raw materials for ceramic manufacture in ancient Sicily

2011

Abstract It is well known that mineralogical, petrographic and chemical analyses can successfully support provenance studies of archaeological ceramics. The characterisation of a ceramic paste, the assessment of its technology of production and its provenance assignment related to a specific production centre or to a geographical and/or compositional space, are all tasks that can be performed even more accurately if the clayey raw materials used in pottery production are also studied. For that reason the identification of the clay deposits exploited in a given ceramic workshop often plays a key role in the archaeometric reconstruction of the production cycle where geology, mineralogy, petro…

« In Defense of Freedom of Adaptation: The Case of El hombre descuadernado, an Adaptation of “The Horla” »

2018

International audience; This chapter offers a case study of El hombre descuadernado (2009), a comic book adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s « The Horla » (1886) by Spanish writer Felipe Hernández Cava and Argentinian artist Sanyú. If one considers a good adaptation to be a free adaptation, i.e. one which betrays its source rather than reproduce it, then literary classics provide many opportunities for adaptations insomuch as they are open to multiple readings and to the specific concerns of various eras (in this case, a parallel is made between the figure of the Horla and Alzheimer’s disease). Thus, after exploring Cava’s reasons for adapting the novella with its motifs of disease, madness, …
