Comparative expression of cyclooxygenase 2 and Ki67 in amelanotic and conventional oral melanomas

Background Oral melanomas have some histopathological resemblance with its cutaneous counterpart; however, an aggressive behavior is more common in tumors that occur in the oral cavity. Several markers have been suggested as indicative of tumoral progression and aggressiveness, such as cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) and Ki67. Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma With Exon 2 p.L56M RET Variant: Clinical Particular Features in Two Patients

RET (REarranged during Transfection) proto-oncogene variants are essential for the development of familial and sporadic forms of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). The most frequent variants are usually located in exons 10, 11, and 13 through 16 of the RET gene. We report two cases of apparently sporadic MTC associated with the variant in exon 2 of RET gene. Patient 1, a 62-year old man who had undergone adrenalectomy for a 5 cm pheochromocytoma, was screened for type 2 multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN 2) which showed elevated basal and post-intravenous calcium gluconate calcitonin levels. Oral myiasis: a case report in a child with cerebral palsy

This case report added Myiasis is a parasitic disease that affects humans and other vertebrates. A rare condition in humans, myiasis is a worldwide phenomenon, with a higher incidence being observed in tropical and subtropical regions. Oral myiasis is rarely observed in children, is uncommon in the oral cavity, more specifically periodontal tissue. This uncommon condition is more prevalent in tropical and subtropical American and others country where low socioeconomic conditions, residence in rural areas, mental deficiency and precarious hygiene conditions. This case reports a reality of a child with cerebral palsy in a Public Hospital in São Luis, Ma, Brasil.

The Ferroelectric Photo-Groundstate of SrTiO$_3$: Cavity Materials Engineering

Significance Controlling collective phenomena in quantum materials is a promising route toward engineering material properties on demand. Strong THz lasers have been successful at inducing ferroelectricity in S r T i O 3 . Here we demonstrate, from atomistic calculations, that cavity quantum vacuum fluctuations induce a change in the collective phase of S r T i O 3 in the strong light–matter coupling regime. Physicochemical characterisation of thermally aged anodic films on magnetron sputtered niobium

The influence of thermal aging, at intermediate temperature (1h at 250°C) and in different environments, on the electronic and solid-state properties of stabilized 160 nm thick amorphous anodic niobia, grown on magnetron sputtered niobium metal, has been studied. A detailed physicochemical characterisation of the a-Nb2O5/0.5M H2SO4 electrolyte junction has been carried out by means of photocurrent and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as well by differential admittance measurements. A change in the optical band gap (3.45 eV) of niobia film has been observed after aging (3.30 eV) at 250°C in air for 1 hour. Current status of AlInN layers lattice-matched to GaN for photonics and electronics

We report on the current properties of Al1-x InxN (x approximate to 0.18) layers lattice- matched ( LM) to GaN and their specific use to realize nearly strain- free structures for photonic and electronic applications. Following a literature survey of the general properties of AlInN layers, structural and optical properties of thin state- of- the- art AlInN layers LM to GaN are described showing that despite improved structural properties these layers are still characterized by a typical background donor concentration of ( 1 - 5) x 10(18) cm(-3) and a large Stokes shift (similar to 800 meV) between luminescence and absorption edge. Engineering light emission of two-dimensional materials in both the weak and strong coupling regimes

Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) materials have promising applications in optoelectronics, photonics, and quantum technologies. However, their intrinsically low light absorption limits their performance, and potential devices must be accurately engineered for optimal operation. Here, we apply a transfer matrix-based source-term method to optimize light absorption and emission in 2D materials and related devices in weak and strong coupling regimes.
