Sesquiterpene lactones and lignans from Artemisia arborescens
1997
The aerial parts of Artemisia arborescens yielded, in addition to several known compounds, a new guaianolide, a new homoditerpene endoperoxide, a new lignan of the sesamin type and a new azulene derivative.
Influence of Bacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens on the Properties of Latvian Clay
2014
Wide varieties of bacteria are able to produce extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) which are mostly composed of polysaccharides. It is suggested that EPS substances can alter certain clay soil properties due to their ability to adhere to the surface of mineral particles. Most common used microorganisms by the researchers for this purpose are of either genus Bacillus or genus Pseudomonas. In this study growth of bacteria P. fluorescens AM PS11 culture in locally obtained clay is studied for the purpose of establishing their influence on rheological properties of clay. An attempt to evaluate it has been made using FT-IR and XRD. Change in plasticity of clay using Atterberg limits method …
Dracoside, a New Steroidal Saponin fromHelleborus purpurascens
1994
Abstract A new steroidal saponin, 1-O-[6-O-acetyl-β-D-galactopyranosyl]-24-O-[β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→3)-4-O-acetyl-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl]-dracogenin, was isolated from the roots of Helleborus purpurascens and named dracoside. Structure elucidation was performed by chemical transformations and various spectroscopic methods, mainly 2D NMR techniques (COSY, HMQC, HMBC).
Succinate dehydrogenase functioning by a reverse redox loop mechanism and fumarate reductase in sulphate-reducing bacteria.
2006
Sulphate- or sulphur-reducing bacteria with known or draft genome sequences (Desulfovibrio vulgaris, Desulfovibrio desulfuricans G20, Desulfobacterium autotrophicum [draft], Desulfotalea psychrophila and Geobacter sulfurreducens) all contain sdhCAB or frdCAB gene clusters encoding succinate : quinone oxidoreductases. frdD or sdhD genes are missing. The presence and function of succinate dehydrogenase versus fumarate reductase was studied. Desulfovibrio desulfuricans (strain Essex 6) grew by fumarate respiration or by fumarate disproportionation, and contained fumarate reductase activity. Desulfovibrio vulgaris lacked fumarate respiration and contained succinate dehydrogenase activity. Succi…
Conrad Under Polish Eyes - or: is Conrad still "one of us"?
2015
This article discusses the attitude of Polish Conrad scholars towards Conrad and his works from the very beginning of his literary career to the present day, discussing the way they have perceived Conrad’s national identity and his cultural belonging. Although I aim to present a review of Polish criticism over the years, I pay particular attention to modern criticism, i.e. that of the period since the end of the Second World War, which includes the years of de facto communist rule (1945-1989). I try to determine whether Conrad is still “one of us”, whether he can be perceived as a moralist in the twenty-fi rst century and whether there is a need for such a moralist in present-day Poland.
The long duration of the census reservativus. Credit forms and agrarian contracts between the middle ages and the modern era
2008
The census reservativus is a form of rent or annuity often misunderstood in historiographical researches; the difficult of the argument consist, generally, in the questions studied by the linguistic turn and in the plasticity of a institution swinging between the agrarian contracts and the supply of money. This form of rent has been associated for a long time with another contract, known as census consignativus, that recently has been traduced with the ambiguous term consignative emphyteusis; the evolution of the census reservativus belong to a history of longue durée and has been particularly distinguished by the fusion of locals customs with the revival of the principles of roman right in…
