Understanding the determinants of business process modelling in organisations
2011
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to address a theoretical gap in the business process management (BPM) literature on factors that influence the acceptance and use of business process modelling (PM) in organisations. The paper seeks to contribute to theory building and practice in BPM through better understanding of important determinants of PM adoption and use.Design/methodology/approachA combination of literature review and 34 interviews in context was used to develop a PM acceptance model that was subsequently empirically tested using survey data from 74 companies.FindingsThe paper provides empirical insights about how business PM can be influenced by many factors in the organisational…
Konkurētspējs analīze uzņēmumā SIA "Allnex Latvia".
2020
Modelling urban networks at mega-regional scale: Are increasingly complex urban systems sustainable?
2015
Are the dynamics of mega-regions sustainable or not? We explore the hypothesis that increasing complexity in mega-regions implies less demands on resources needed to generate organized information, thereby making the systems more efficient and stable. This article aims to identify structural indicators for measuring urban networks at the mega-regional scale. We use night-time light data from the broad band near-visible infrared channel of the DMSP-OLS to monitor the dynamics of urbanization. We study the urban networks as graphs, where nodes are cities, and the main road and railway infrastructures represent the edges. We propose four indicators for measuring the complexity, polycentricity,…
ROBOTIC VERSUS LAPAROSCOPIC INTRACORPOREAL ANASTOMOSIS IN RIGHT COLON CANCER SURGERY: ANALYSIS OF PATIENTS’ OPERATIVE OUTCOMES AND OPERATORS’ CURRENT…
2022
Background. Whereas laparoscopy proved to have better operative outcomes than open surgery over the years, robotic surgery provided no clear advantages over laparoscopy despite its more advanced technical features. However, robotic technology might help to achieve some advantageous procedures which are generally regarded as challenging, such as performing an intracorporeal anastomosis during a right colectomy. The objectives of this research project were: 1) to compare the outcomes of laparoscopic and robotic surgery in the case of a right colectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis for colon cancer; 2) to find any factors influencing surgical decisions and outcomes. Methods. First, we conduc…
Italian multicentric survey on laparoscopic spleen surgery in the pediatric population.
2007
Abstract Background: Some technical aspects of laparoscopic spleen surgery still are debated, although efforts have been made to standardize them. The position of the patient, the approach to the spleen, vessel identification and division, and spleen extraction can vary from center to center. Methods: This retrospective muticentric study led by the Societa` Italiana di Videochirurgia Infantile (SIVI) examined indications, surgical details, and complications of laparoscopic spleen surgery in the pediatric population during a 5-year period. Results: The study period from January 1999 to December 2003 (5 years) involved nine centers and included 85 patients with a mean age of 10 years (range, …
Data from: Plant – herbivorous beetle networks: molecular characterization of trophic ecology within a threatened steppic environment
2015
DNA barcoding facilitates many evolutionary and ecological studies, including the examination of the dietary diversity of herbivores. In this study, we present a survey of ecological associations between herbivorous beetles and host plants from seriously threatened European steppic grasslands. We determined host plants for the majority (65%) of steppic leaf beetles (55 species) and weevils (59) known from central Europe using two barcodes (trnL and rbcL) and two sequencing strategies (Sanger for mono/oligophagous species and Illumina for polyphagous taxa). To better understand the ecological associations between steppic beetles and their host plants, we tested the hypothesis that leaf beetl…

Calcium-Dependent Assembly of Centrin-G-Protein Complex in Photoreceptor Cells
2002
Photoexcitation of rhodopsin activates a heterotrimeric G-protein cascade leading to cyclic GMP hydrolysis in vertebrate photoreceptors. Light-induced exchanges of the visual G-protein transducin between the outer and inner segment of rod photoreceptors occur through the narrow connecting cilium. Here we demonstrate that transducin colocalizes with the Ca(2+)-binding protein centrin 1 in a specific domain of this cilium. Coimmunoprecipitation, centrifugation, centrin overlay, size exclusion chromatography, and kinetic light-scattering experiments indicate that Ca(2+)-activated centrin 1 binds with high affinity and specificity to transducin. The assembly of centrin-G-protein complex is medi…
The exceptional nature of the first person in natural story processing and the transfer of egocentricity
2018
Human language enables us to externalise self-internal information (e.g. emotions or beliefs that are not readily accessible to others). Thus, language bridges the gap between the self and the other (e.g. Frith and Frith, 2010) in a way that possibly no other communication system can provide. In many languages, the difference between the self and others is directly reflected in the distinction between first (“I”), second (“you”) and third person (“he, she”) marking. In the present study, we compared ERPs to first, second and third person pronouns during the comprehension of an audio-book version of The Little Prince. Our results revealed a strong P300 response following first person pronoun…
Die mediterrane Faszination. Die erste deutsche Mittelmeer- und Orientkreuzfahrt
2022
