Variazioni dell'apofisi trasversa della settima vertebra cervicale: studio anatomo - radiologico su una popolazione >

1990

An Automatic Method for PET Delineation of Cervical Tumors

2015

Aim: PET imaging is increasingly utilized for radiation treatment planning. Nevertheless, accurate segmentation of PET images is a complex and unresolved problem. Aim of this work is the development of an automatic segmentation method of Biological Target Volume (BTV) in patients with cervical cancer. Materials and methods: Random walks (RW) is a graph-based method that represents a DICOM (Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) image as a graph. The voxels are its nodes and the edges are defined by a cost function which maps a change in image intensity to edge weights. Then, RW partitions the nodes into target and background subsets. To create an automatic method starting from prev…

Predictive role of histological features and Ki67 pattern on high-risk HPV presence in atypical cervical lesions

2007

The most frequently detected alterations of squamous cervical epithelia consist of metaplastic/reactive conditions and human papillomavirus (HPV)-related dysplastic lesions. These latter are traditionally identified as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN1, 2 or 3) or, in the Bethesda System, as low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL), including CIN1, and high-grade SIL, including CIN2 and CIN3. Some HPV-induced lesions, which are not characterized by obvious dysplasia, are often diagnosed as LSIL. In these lesions, which are hereafter referred to as cervical atipical lesions (CAL), histological features of HPV infection (namely, koilocytosis, multinucleation, acanthosis, papil…

LESIONI ORALI E CERVICALI ASSOCIATE A PAPILLOMA VIRUS UMANO

2009

The aim of this review is to carry out a quick excursus on the epidemiological and clinical aspect of oral and cervical lesions induced by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and on the way this virus is transmitted. HPV infection is transmitted above all through vaginal or anal sexual relations with partners carrying the virus. Also other types of sexual relations, such as oral sex, can be a vehicle of transmission, though much more rarely. In literature there is not enough data proving that oral-genital contact can really be a vehicle of transmission for human papillomavirus. It can be concluded, therefore, that evidences in further studies with a large sample group of patients who pract…

Complementary and Innovative Method in Genital HPV Testing for Cervical Cancer Prevention

2020

Abstract Considering actual SARS-COV 2 pandemic, the comfort and time of the female patient’ trend is to minimize the time spent in the doctor’s office, so that auto-testing is a solving problem in this context. This paper aims at the importance of self-collected urine and vaginal samples, since actual studies are showing that is a complementary method in HPV-testing and a screening method for prevention of cervical cancer. Genital HPV infection is responsible for approximately 99% of cervical cancers, and is considered a sexually transmitted disease. Given that eight out of ten patients have at least one episode of HPV infection in their lifetime, there is a need for a method of early dete…

Low rate of oral human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in women screened for cervical HPV infection in Southern Italy: A cross-sectional study of 140 …

2009

Even though the natural history of cervical and oral human papillomavirus (HPV) infection has been investigated intensely, the possibility that HPV may infect both sites in the same subject is not well documented. This study investigated the frequency of concurrent oral and cervical HPV infection in southern Italian women, in the light of some selected socio-behavioral variables. One hundred forty women (mean age: 36 years), with known cervical HPV status, were analyzed for oral HPV. Age, smoking/drinking habits, clinical and socio-behavioral history were assessed by personal interviews. Oral mucosal cells were collected by oral brushing and HPV DNA was sought by the use of nested PCR ampli…

Neck and Shoulder Muscle Activation Among Experienced and Inexperienced Pilots in +Gz Exposure

2017

Background The aim of the present study was to compare differences in electromyography (EMG) activation of the neck and shoulder muscles between groups of inexperienced and experienced pilots during controlled +Gz exposure in a centrifuge. Methods The subjects were volunteer cadets (inexperienced group) and lieutenants (experienced group) undergoing their first centrifuge training. The first group did not have any high performance aircraft (HPA) experience, while the latter one had a 1-yr experience of intense flying of HPA. During the centrifuge run, EMG activity was recorded from the left and right shoulder, neck flexor, and neck extensor muscles. Results The pilots without HPA experience…

Weekly Cisplatin and Volumetric-Modulated Arc Therapy With Simultaneous Integrated Boost for Radical Treatment of Advanced Cervical Cancer in Elderly…

2016

Background: To evaluate the feasibility and clinical preliminary results of weekly cisplatin and volumetric-modulated arc therapy to the pelvis with simultaneous integrated boost to macroscopic disease in a cohort of elderly patients. Materials and Methods: Inclusion criteria of this prospective study were age ≥70 years, Karnofsky performance status 70 to 100, locally advanced histologically proven squamous cervical carcinoma, and patients unable to undergo brachytherapy. Radiation doses prescribed were 66 Gy to the macroscopic disease and 54 Gy to the pelvic nodes in 30 fractions. Weekly cisplatin dose was 40 mg/mq. Results: A total of 30 patients were recruited. Median follow-up was 32 mo…
