Isolation of a putative prolyl-tRNA synthetase (CaPRS) gene fromCandida albicans

We have isolated a 4·0-kb fragment from a genomic library of Candida albicans which contained two open reading frames (ORFs). One of them is homologous to a prolyl-tRNA synthetase that catalyses the charging of a specific tRNA by proline (CaPRS). A deduced sequence of 575 amino acids representing a polypeptide of 66·2 kDa was determined. A FASTA search indicated that the CaPRSp had an overall similarity of 54·4% with the product of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae ORF (YER087) and 43·8% with the prolyl-tRNA synthetase of Escherichia coli (COLIPRO). Consensus Class II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase sequences were identified by the PROSITE program. CaPRS was localized to chromosome R of the C. albicans …

The DNA sequence of a 4·1 kb region of Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome IV was determined. This region contains a single open reading frame which codes for a member of the hexose transporter family. This new gene has been named HXT15 according to yeast gene data bases. The sequence has been entered in the EMBL data library under Accession Number X92891.

The complete nucleotide sequence of a 39 090 bp segment from the left arm of yeast chromosome IV was determined. Twenty-one open reading frames (ORFs) longer than 100 amino acids and a Gly-tRNA gene were discovered. General problems connected with planning, sampling, and data processing of long-term research of soil mesofauna are discussed, based on two case studies: (i) the Bremen study of predatory mites (Gamasina) covering 20 years of secondary succession on a ruderal site in northern Germany and (ii) the Mazsalaca study of the effects of climate warming on Collembola of coniferous stands in the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve, Latvia, covering 11 years. Aim: The aim of this randomized clinical trial was to compare the coronally advanced flap (CAF) with the modified microsurgical tunnel technique (MMTT) for treatment of Miller class I and II recessions. Material and Methods: Forty patients with 71 gingival recessions were recruited and randomly assigned to either CAF or to MMTT. In both groups, a connective tissue graft was applied. The paper aims at investigating the impact of the Great Recession on per capita GDP convergence process across European regions and countries. Using the time-varying factor model developed by Phillips and Sul for the period 2000–2015 and two different merging procedures to identify clubs, we provide evidence of the diverging impact of the Great Recession “between” the higher and the lower convergence clubs at both regional and country levels as well as of the strengthening of the convergence process “within” most clubs. The Role of Education in Self–Employment Success in Finland

This paper analyzes the effect of self–employed persons’ education on the success of their firms during the economic downturn and upturn of the 1990's. It is found that the business cycle affects the relative closure rates of firms run by self–employed with any level of education. Exit probability is lower for the highly educated during bust, but higher in boom. This is accounted for by two facts. First, running a small firm is argued to be a less attractive choice to wage work, particularly for the highly educated, due to lower earning prospects, less stable stream of earnings, and the cultural tradition of working in large corporations.
