Communication challenges facing management teams

2015

Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to explore what kinds of communication challenges management teams (MTs) experience and to suggest ideas for developing competent communication practices.Design/methodology/approach– Working according to the principles of qualitative research, a total of seven MT members from seven different international companies were interviewed. The thematic in-depth interviews were analyzed by first looking at all references of communication challenges, and then grouping them into six different dimensions.Findings– Most of the communication challenges facing MTs are related to the teams’ meetings, where issues of leadership, decision making and participation may we…

Altered Challenge Response in Whitefish Subchronically Exposed in Areas Polluted by Bleached Kraft Mill Effluents

1999

Exposure to impaired water quality, as in bleached kraft mill effluents (BKMEs), has recently been demonstrated to impair the ability of fish to elicit an acute stress response. Acute stress caused by catching is, in most field studies, an unavoidable incident that may markedly affect physiological functions. Consistently, dissimilar stress responses to catching procedures in exposed and reference animals may lead to altered results. In this study, juvenile whitefish (Coregonus levaretus) were caged for 30 days in two reference areas and three areas affected by different BKMEs, and the immediate effects of low-level handling on physiological functions in four periods within an hour of the s…

Starptautisko studentu pielāgošanās augstākās izglītības iestādei izaicinājumi

2021

Development of polymer-based nanoparticles for Zileuton delivery to the lung : PMeOx and PMeOzi surface chemistry reduces interactions with mucins

2021

In this paper, two amphiphilic graft copolymers were synthesized by grafting polylactic acid (PLA) as hydrophobic chain and poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline) (PMeOx) or poly(2-methyl-2-oxazine) (PMeOzi) as hydrophilic chain, respectively, to a backbone of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA). These original graft copolymers were used to prepare nanoparticles delivering Zileuton in inhalation therapy. Among various tested methods, direct nanoprecipitation proved to be the best technique to prepare nanoparticles with the smallest dimensions, the narrowest dimensional distribution and a spherical shape. To overcome the size limitations for administration by inhalation, the nano-into-micr…

Judicial challenge of collective dismissals: Special reference to workers¿ selection criteria

2021

In this work, the system of judicial challenge forcollective dismissalsis analysed, with a special reference to issues related to affectedworkers, as a consequence of the application of the so-called sel…

Ethical Challenges of Hybrid Editors

2016

In times of turbulence in the media industry, media organizations are looking for new business models. Digitalization has led traditional news media organizations to testing new forms of advertisement, such as sponsored content and native advertising, whereas others, such as lifestyle magazines, have a longer history in collaborating with brands. Editors are key players in these developments, since they are journalist–managers and decision makers within those daily practices that shape policies and influence new product innovation and development. In this study, we examine from the editors’ point of view, how they see the process of adopting novel forms of advertisement and what ethical cha…

Enterprise System Implementation in a Franchise Context: An Action Case Study

2015

Abstract This research paper reports on a study focusing on a franchise relationship that utilizes an enterprise system (ES) to optimize its supply chain. The ES is in its post-implementation phase; however, the franchisee has challenges with inventory management due to poor data quality, which causes problems with vendor analysis and revenue control. An action case study was carried out to identify and diagnose the source of the problem, and interventions were implemented and evaluated. The findings demonstrate that several of the challenges related to poor data quality in the supply chain were influenced by problems of a socio-technical character. These included a lack of understanding of…

The role of Intellectual Property Rights in the value capturing of crowdsourcing for innovation contests

2017

In this study, we investigate the role of IPR arrangements in crowdsourcing for innovation challenges. Integrating Property Rights Theory and the open innovation literature, we propose that specific challenge attributes affect the seekers organizations’ choice between alternative IPR arrangements and how this choice, in turn, affects the self-selection of external solvers into solving the challenge. We collected multi-source, interview data with open innovation directors and we built a unique data set of 729 awarded challenges broadcasted on InnoCentive platform from 2010 to 2016. Our findings contribute to the emerging literature on open innovation and crowdsourcing literature by bringing …

Interstitial lung disease induced by drugs and radiation.

2004

An ever-increasing number of drugs can reproduce variegated patterns of naturally occurring interstitial lung disease (ILD), including most forms of interstitial pneumonias, alveolar involvement and, rarely, vasculitis. Drugs in one therapeutic class may collectively produce the same pattern of involvement. A few drugs can produce more than one pattern of ILD. The diagnosis of drug-induced ILD (DI-ILD) essentially rests on the temporal association between exposure to the drug and the development of pulmonary infiltrates. The histopathological features of DI-ILD are generally consistent, rather than suggestive or specific to the drug etiology. Thus, the diagnosis of DI-ILD is mainly made by …

From CO2 to dimethyl carbonate with dialkyldimethoxystannanes: the key role of monomeric species.

2011

International audience; The formation of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO(2) and methanol with the dimer [n-Bu(2)Sn(OCH(3))(2)](2) was investigated by experimental kinetics in support of DFT calculations. Under the reaction conditions (357-423 K, 10-20 MPa), identical initial rates are observed with three different reacting mixtures, CO(2)/toluene, supercritical CO(2), and CO(2)/methanol, and are consistent with the formation of monomeric di-n-butyltin(iv) species. An intramolecular mechanism is, therefore, proposed with an Arrhenius activation energy amounting to 104 ± 10 kJ mol(-1) for DMC synthesis. DFT calculations on the [(CH(3))(2)Sn(OCH(3))(2)](2)/CO(2) system show that the exothermi…
