Characterization of nuclear effects in muon-neutrino scattering on hydrocarbon with a measurement of final-state kinematics and correlations in charg…

2018

This paper reports measurements of final-state proton multiplicity, muon and proton kinematics, and their correlations in charged-current pionless neutrino interactions, measured by the T2K ND280 near detector in its plastic scintillator (C$_8$H$_8$) target. The data were taken between years 2010 and 2013, corresponding to approximately 6$\times10^{20}$ protons on target. Thanks to their exploration of the proton kinematics and of kinematic imbalances between the proton and muon kinematics, the results offer a novel probe of the nuclear-medium effects most pertinent to the (sub-)GeV neutrino-nucleus interactions that are used in accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino oscillation measureme…

Meshless Electrophysiological Modeling of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy—Benchmark Analysis with Finite-Element Methods in Experimental Data

2022

Computational models of cardiac electrophysiology are promising tools for reducing the rates of non-response patients suitable for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) by optimizing electrode placement. The majority of computational models in the literature are mesh-based, primarily using the finite element method (FEM). The generation of patient-specific cardiac meshes has traditionally been a tedious task requiring manual intervention and hindering the modeling of a large number of cases. Meshless models can be a valid alternative due to their mesh quality independence. The organization of challenges such as the CRT-EPiggy19, providing unique experimental data as open access, enables b…

Innovative and Sustainable Food Business Models

2019

Companies are called upon to solve the great challenges of the new millennium. The food sector, from this point of view, plays a strategic role. Poverty, malnutrition, hunger, climate change, and social inequalities are just some of the trends which the agri-food sector has to cope with. The digital transformation that companies will need to embrace to survive requires new ways of creating, thinking, and working with technology-driven tools to provide value for their businesses and customers. Digitization, whether it pertains to new technologies, the analysis of big data or the development of on-line and spatial applications, can contribute to achieving systemic food production transformati…

Gene expression specificity of the mussel antifungal mytimycin (MytM)

2011

Abstract We previously reported the nucleotide sequences and diversity of mytimycin (MytM) from the Mediterranean mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis. Using real-time PCR (q-PCR), we observed that the MytM gene was mainly expressed in circulating hemocytes and to a less extent in the mantle. In vivo challenge with bacteria or with the yeast, Candida albicans, did not increase the expression as measured by q-PCR in hemocytes. By contrast, injection of the filamentous fungus, Fusarium oxysporum, induced a sudden and strong increase of expression at 9h p.i. (stimulation index of 25.7 ± 2.1). Optimum stimulating dose was 104 spores of F. oxysporum per mussel. In the same samples, AMP mytilin and …

Overionization in X-ray spectra: a new paradigm for Mixed-Morphology SNRs

2011

Mixed-morphology SNRs are characterized by a shell-like radio emission, a centrally peaked X-ray morphology, and by interaction with molecular clouds. Many models have been proposed to explain these peculiar remnants, but their physical origin is still unclear. The recent discovery of over-ionized (i. e. recombining) ejecta in 3 mixed-morphology SNRs has dramatically challenged all the previous models and opened up new, unexpected scenarios. I review the main properties of these remnants and their peculiar X-ray spectral properties. I also discuss the hydrodynamic model developed to explain the presence of over-ionized ejecta in W49B and present a list of open issues that still need to be c…

The role of IPR arrangements in the crowdsourcing for innovation contest: an empirical investigation of the Innocentive challenges

2017

In this study, we identify three different Intellectual Property Right arrangements- strong IPR (acquiring an IP), weak IPR (licensing agreement) and flexible IPR. Integrating Property Rights Theory and the open innovation literature, we propose that specific challenge attributes affect the seekers organizations’ choice between alternative IPR arrangements and how this choice, in turn, affects the self-selection of external solvers into solving the problem. We collected multi-source, interview data with open innovation directors and a unique data set of 819 closed and awarded challenges broadcasted on InnoCentive platform from 2010 to 2016. Our findings contribute to the emerging literature…

A study on Norwegian companies in China: Challenges & successful strategies

2016

Master thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2016 This paper examines what governmental and cultural challenges Norwegian companies face when entering and doing business in China. In addition, this paper also discusses what strategies to implement to overcome these challenges. With China becoming a bigger player in the global marketplace, this is an important matter not only for companies across the world but also for Norwegian companies. Through a qualitative research method with semi-structured interviews, the research is conducted on four Norwegian companies who does business in China. The findings shows that there are many variables affecting the choice of entry mod…

Towards Successful Implementation of a Virtual Classroom for Vocational Higher Education in Indonesia

2019

The virtual classroom continues to grow, but it is becoming more and more the norm, and it is fundamentally different from the vocational students at the Indonesian university. With the promised benefits of the virtual classroom, many challenges and difficulties come in the implementation. Although there are already successful design principles for virtual classrooms that support organizations in overcoming the challenges, the approach to implementing the design principles of virtual classroom at the vocational higher education in Indonesia is still lacking. In this study, we aim to answer the research gap and used the design sciences research by interviewing the lecturers to design the sol…

Near Zero Energy House in Palestine: Identification of the Future Challenges

2015

Most of researches and experiences of the concept of near zero energy buildings (NZEBs) are highly concentrated on the developed countries more than the developing countries due to many reasons related to the different contexts conditions. This paper is a part of a PhD thesis, which is being supervised by the Department of Architecture at the University of Palermo. The paper aims at highlighting the challenges facing the house design in Palestine as a developing country in terms of NZEBs by making a study which is related to discussing different experiences in the field of energy saving strategies in Palestine and some surrounded countries, such as Jordan which shares certain climatic and a…

Innovation – A Challenge for the 21st Century Managers

2015

Abstract The knowledge based economy entails more and more the intangible assets as a main tendency in the actual times. In the new economy, what counts is the model of thinking and the creation, which represent the key of the competition. The property of the ideas and the way one turns to advantage the economic potential of these, are the factors that bear more and more upon the future of the organizations and of companies, and this is also the one that gives the competitive advantage on the market. In this paper we have as a purpose framing the importance of innovation within the organizations, the problems that the managers confront during this process and also to present an evaluation m…
