Activation of Na+/H+ exchange and subsequent calcium overload in cardiac myocytes appear to play an important role in myocardial tissue injury following ischemia and reperfusion. Results of several in vitro studies in isolated myocytes and heart preparations and in vivo studies in pigs and rats have suggested that inhibition of Na+/H+ exchange is an effective means to prevent lethal reperfusion injury, arrhythmia, and improve myocardial contractile dysfunction. AIMS: The first aim was to critically evaluate the extent to which familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) is underdiagnosed and undertreated. The second aim was to provide guidance for screening and treatment of FH, in order to prevent coronary heart disease (CHD).METHODS AND RESULTS: Of the theoretical estimated prevalence of 1/500 for heterozygous FH, <1% are diagnosed in most countries. BACKGROUND Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP) is a rare, life-threatening autoimmune thrombotic microangiopathy. Caplacizumab, an anti-von Willebrand Factor Nanobody® , is effective for treating aTTP episodes and is well tolerated. Statins may play a role on some modifiable clinical features of MS; in fact, whereas therapeutic lifestyle changes are mandatory for MS with a 10-year coronary heart disease (CHD) risk 20% and to correct the other associated lipid and non-lipid abnormalities. Abstract The human brain can automatically detect auditory changes, as indexed by the mismatch negativity of event-related potentials. The mechanisms that underlie this response are poorly understood. We recorded primary auditory cortical and hippocampal (dentate gyrus, CA1) local-field potentials to serial tones in urethane-anesthetized rats. In an oddball condition, a rare (deviant) tone ( p = 0.11) randomly replaced a repeated (standard) tone.
