Simulation study of the effects of intensified crop management in genetically manipulated maize on arable weed flora and associated fauna
2014
International audience; Cultivation of GM crops with herbicide tolerance is mostly associated with changes in crop and weed management, like simplified rotations, simplified tillage and change from selective herbicides to the broadband glyphosate. All of these management practices decrease weed densities in crops and change their composition. Although weeds cause yield loss and harvest problems, they are an important part of arable biodiversity and offer food and habitat for different groups of animals. A simulation study was conducted to analyse indirect effects of intensified cropping in GM maize on biodiversity. The dynamic crop: weed model FlorSys was used to simulate weed densities and…
Le réchauffement climatique diminue-t-il le risque de dégâts par le gel pour les cultures de climat tempéré ?
2014
Does global warming reduce the freezing injury risk to temperate climate crops? Winter crop response to a temperature increase is complex. Recent works point out, for cold climate vegetation, a paradoxical increase in freezing injury in a warming climate. Complementary works are needed to support these results for winter crops in temperate areas. To achieve this goal, five climatic records spanning a fifty years-long period for both daily minimum and maximum temperatures were analyzed with a model predicting frost hardiness and freezing damage for the winter pea crop. The methodological approach was based on three main steps: 1) the climate warming analysis of the 1987/1988 temperature shif…

Some aspects of water balance indicators in Western Central Africa: example of the savannas in the Niari valley (Congo)
2005
Shrubby savannas of the Niari valley are an ecosystem form that have a weak predisposition to evapotranspirate water in the atmosphere. They seem to be a “reducing” environment of energy transformation. The interactions of the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system seem to be largely dependent of surface conditions. What mostly explains the weakness of recycled moisture over this local area (at a local space scale). That partly leads to a high variability of the field capacity which fluctuates between one and five months. Moreover, shrubby savannas of the Niari valley are characterized by a continuous seasonal dryness. It is the result of a climatic azonality characterized by weak rains combined…
