We report 8 new records of Lepidochelys olivacea marine turtle in the Uruguayan waters, indicating this area as the southernmost limit of distribution for this species in the western Atlantic Ocean. In addition, 1 specimen was subjected to genetic analysis, revealing its population origin in the western Atlantic nesting colonies (Surinam, French Guiana, and Brazil). This report represents an update of the distribution of L. olivacea in the southwestern Atlantic and provides insight into the morphological and genetic characterization of the species at temperate waters.

Locally weighted spatio-temporal minimum contrast for Log-Gaussian Cox Processes

We propose a local version of the spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes (LGCPs) employing the Local Indicators of Spatio-Temporal Association (LISTA) functions into the minimum contrast procedure to obtain space as well as time-varying parameters. We resort to the joint minimum contrast method fitting method to estimate the set of second-order parameters for the class of spatio-temporal LGCPs. This approach has the advantage of being usable in the case of both separable and non-separable parametric specifications of the correlation function of the underlying Gaussian Random Field (GRF).

Morphologically similar but not closely related: the long-spored species of Subulicystidium (Trechisporales, Basidiomycota)

AbstractSpecies boundaries and geographic distribution of corticioid fungi (resupinate Basidiomycota) are often poorly known. Our recent study on Subulicystidium showed that species diversity in this genus is at least twice as high as previously recognized. This re-estimation of the species diversity was based on a study of only a part of the genus. The present study sheds light on molecular and morphological diversity of three more species. Abstract The elemental and mineralogical contents of rock drillcore can be analyzed using a variety of methods. For efficient exploration the characterization of the drillcore should be performed rapidly, so that the further drillings can be better planned and unnecessary costs can be reduced. In this paper, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is studied as a potential rapid on-line method for automated elemental analysis of drillcore. The structural characterisation of a synthetic peptide reproducing the sequence 1–30 of Par j 1.0101, a major allergenic protein present in the pollen of Parietaria judaica, by combined use of chemical and enzymatic cleavage, reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), is described. Chemical characterization of ancient liturgical vestment (chasuble) by Inductively Coupled Plasma–Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP–OES)

Abstract This paper presents the chemical characterization of the yarns of an ancient liturgical vestment (chasuble). The samples have been analyzed for Al, Ag, Au, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn using amounts always less than 1 mg by Inductively Coupled Plasma–Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). Except a sample, silver is the most abundant element in all the yarns. In the samples containing silver, it ranged from 68 to 97%. Only two samples contain aluminum. Although the investigated chasuble is recorded in the inventory as an artifact of the XV century, a part of the yarns is composed of materials attributed to later period. Supercritical dissolved gas atomization (SDGA) is an atomization process in which a gas at temperatures and pressures above the critical point is used as the atomizing medium. The concept of SDGA has been applied mainly using CO 2 as atomizing gas in various processes developed for the production of fine particles of pharmaceuticals, polymers, and chemical products and for the atomization of fuels. Yttria-stabilized zirconia in-flight particle characteristics under vacuum plasma spray conditions

This paper deals with the diagnostic yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) in-flight particles in Vacuum Plasma Spray (VPS) process using an optical measurement device. Particle velocity, temperature and diameter were correlated to spray distance under a fixed chamber pressure of about 14 kPa. Experiments were carried out with a two-color pyrometer. Results show that correlations can be satisfactory described with linear relationships. Particle velocity and temperature decrease when increasing spray distance whereas particle diameter exhibits a linear increase with the spray distance.

On the dynamical stability of negative conductance free running oscillators

For a class of weakly nonlinear autonomous systems exhibiting both resistive and reactive nonlinearities, asymptotic orbital stability is investigated through a new narrow-band differential approach. The main result is the derivation of the exact characteristic polynomial associated with the local dynamics of the amplitude and phase of the free-running oscillation to be tested.
