On Codimension Growth of Finitely Generated Associative Algebras

1998

Abstract LetAbe a PI-algebra over a fieldF. We study the asymptotic behavior of the sequence of codimensionscn(A) ofA. We show that ifAis finitely generated overFthenInv(A)=limn→∞  c n (A) always exists and is an integer. We also obtain the following characterization of simple algebras:Ais finite dimensional central simple overFif and only ifInv(A)=dim=A.

Henstock–Kurzweil–Pettis integrability of compact valued multifunctions with values in an arbitrary Banach space

2013

Abstract The aim of this paper is to describe Henstock–Kurzweil–Pettis (HKP) integrable compact valued multifunctions. Such characterizations are known in case of functions (see Di Piazza and Musial (2006)  [16] ). It is also known (see Di Piazza and Musial (2010)  [19] ) that each HKP-integrable compact valued multifunction can be represented as a sum of a Pettis integrable multifunction and of an HKP-integrable function. Invoking to that decomposition, we present a pure topological characterization of integrability. Having applied the above results, we obtain two convergence theorems, that generalize results known for HKP-integrable functions. We emphasize also the special role played in …

Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás property for certain spaces of operators

2014

Abstract We characterize the Banach spaces Y for which certain subspaces of operators from L 1 ( μ ) into Y have the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobas property in terms of a geometric property of Y , namely AHSP. This characterization applies to the spaces of compact and weakly compact operators. New examples of Banach spaces Y with AHSP are provided. We also obtain that certain ideals of Asplund operators satisfy the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobas property.

Quantum Finite Automata and Probabilistic Reversible Automata: R-trivial Idempotent Languages

2011

We study the recognition of R-trivial idempotent (R1) languages by various models of "decide-and-halt" quantum finite automata (QFA) and probabilistic reversible automata (DH-PRA). We introduce bistochastic QFA (MM-BQFA), a model which generalizes both Nayak's enhanced QFA and DH-PRA. We apply tools from algebraic automata theory and systems of linear inequalities to give a complete characterization of R1 languages recognized by all these models. We also find that "forbidden constructions" known so far do not include all of the languages that cannot be recognized by measure-many QFA.

A Decomposition of Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis Integrable Multifunctions

2009

We proved in our earlier paper [9] that in case of separable Banach space-valued multifunctions each Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable multifunction can be represented as a sum of one of its Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable selectors and a Pettis integrable multifunction. Now, we prove that the same result can be achieved in case of an arbitrary Banach space. Applying the representation theorem we describe the multipliers of the Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable multifunctions. Then we use this description to obtain a characterization of the Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrability in terms of subadditive operators.

Haar Type and Carleson Constants

2009

For a collection ℰ of dyadic intervals, a Banach space X, and p∈(1, 2], we assume the upper l p estimates where x I ∈X, and h I denotes the L ∞ normalized Haar function supported on I. We determine the minimal requirement on the size of ℰ such that these estimates imply that X is of Haar type p. The characterization is given in terms of the Carleson constant of ℰ.

Incomparable Banach spaces and operator semigroups

2002

Using the notions of total incomparability and total coincomparability of Banach spaces, we define two families of operator semigroups. We show that these semigroups are minimal, in the sense that they admit a perturbative characterization. Moreover, they allow us to characterize the corresponding incomparability classes.

Cores for parabolic operators with unbounded coefficients

2009

Abstract Let A = ∑ i , j = 1 N q i j ( s , x ) D i j + ∑ i = 1 N b i ( s , x ) D i be a family of elliptic differential operators with unbounded coefficients defined in R N + 1 . In [M. Kunze, L. Lorenzi, A. Lunardi, Nonautonomous Kolmogorov parabolic equations with unbounded coefficients, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., in press], under suitable assumptions, it has been proved that the operator G : = A − D s generates a semigroup of positive contractions ( T p ( t ) ) in L p ( R N + 1 , ν ) for every 1 ⩽ p + ∞ , where ν is an infinitesimally invariant measure of ( T p ( t ) ) . Here, under some additional conditions on the growth of the coefficients of A , which cover also some growths with an ex…
