Reconstruction of the former charophyte community out of the fructifications identified in Albufera de València lagoon sediments

2010

Abstract Several decades ago, due to eutrophication, Albufera de Valencia lagoon lost the charophyte meadows that covered the bottom in the past but had never been studied in detail. An area close to the lagoon will be restored now to improve water quality and to recover submerged vegetation. To have information on the background of the charophytes from this area, four 80–87 cm long sediment cores were extracted from the lagoon. The subfossil charophyte fructifications (oospores and gyrogonites) were isolated and identified in two of the four cores. Moreover, sediment core fractions from the third and fourth cores were allowed to germinate under several conditions. The study of the lagoon s…

Putnu koloniju ietekme uz iegrimušo augu veģetāciju Engures ezerā

2020

To ietekme uz ezeru līdz šim nav pētīta.

New Species of Charophyta, Chara polyacantha A. Braun, in Lake Engure, Latvia

2012

Abstract The new charophyte species for Latvia, Chara polyacantha A. Braun, was described. This species was found in Lake Engure, the third largest lake of Latvia. In 2010, C.†polyacantha covered small, approximately 25 m2 patch, growing both in a monodominant stand and mixed with C. tomentosa in the central part of the lake.

1990

The variability of the microstructurals characters and mineralogical composition of the oogonia of some charophytes extant and fossils is described. Two types of microstructures (W & V) are find. These are conservative into populations and are not able to change by the environmental factors. Moreover, these structures are quite constant in some of the phylogenetics groups studied. Consequently it is proposed its utilization in taxonomy. The apparition of original compounds in the Charophyta (vaterite. whewelite, aragonite, etc.) is important because it supports an old idea that considerates the Charophyta as an autonomous class between the Clorophyta and the Traqueophyta.<br><b…
