Interactions between chemical evolution (hydration) and physical evolution (setting) in the case of tricalcium silicate

This paper describes recent experimental results concerning investigation of the parameters which determine, on the one hand, the kinetics of hydration of tricalcium silicate and the thermodynamic, morphological and structural characteristics of C-S-H and, on the other hand, the evolution of the particle interactions at the origin of setting. It is shown that, in both cases, lime concentration in solution is the most important parameter. As a consequence, the chemical evolution of the system, which controls the lime concentration in solution, determines the nature of particle interactions and the physical evolution of the suspension or paste. Abstract Heterogeneous photocatalytic and thermal-catalytic reactions are here presented focusing the differences and similarities between the two processes. When possible, the comparison was made for the same chemical reaction in the presence of an inorganic material playing the role of both catalyst or/and photocatalyst. Precipitation and calcination synthesis methods forming nano-sized platinum catalytic particles for methanol and hydrogen oxidation

Under varying experimental conditions of calcination and precipitation reactions, different particle sizes and levels of platinum on carbon supported (Pt/C) catalysts were obtained. Rapid precipitation following a chemical reaction ensured formation of nano-sized catalytic particles using super-saturated concentrations under controlled conditions was a significant contribution in understanding the synthesis process and how it relates to an increased number of catalytic reaction sites ultimately providing superior electrochemical (EC) activity. This article briefly summarizes the diffusion and reactions of interstitial oxygen species in amorphous SiO 2 (a-SiO 2 ). The most common form of interstitial oxygen species is oxygen molecule (O 2 ), which is sensitively detectable via its characteristic infrared photoluminescence (PL) at 1272 nm. Abstract The fluorimetric flow-injection determination of reserpine was achieved with the drug being derivatized on-line by photoreaction. PTFE tubing was helically coiled around a germicide lamp located between the injection valve and detector. Two analytical procedures are proposed using either dilute acetic acid or pure methanol as the carrier stream. The influence of foreign compounds was studied and the method was applied to the determination of reserpine in pharmaceutical formulations.

On-line isothermal gas phase chromatography was used to study halides of261104 (T1/2=65 s) and262,263105 (T1/2=34 s and 27 s) produced an atom-at-a time via the reactions248Cm(18O, 5n) and249Bk(18O, 5n, 4n), respectively. Using HBr and HCl gas as halogenating agents, we were able to produce volatile bromides and chlorides of the above mentioned elements and study their behavior compared to their lighter homologs in Groups 4 or 5 of the periodic table. Element 104 formed more volatile bromide than its homolog Hf. In contrast, element 105 bromides were found to be less volatile than the bromides of the group 5 elements Nb and Ta. The polycrystalline system CrxOy-TiO2, used as a catalyst for photoreactions, was studied by X-ray diffractometric method, visible-ultraviolet diffuse reflectance and infrared spectroscopic methods, surface area determination, and porosimetry to characterize its structural and surface features. Two series of catalysts were prepared by two different methods, namely by coprecipitation and by impregnation.
