Pipistrellus kuhlii (Kuhl, 1817) (Mammalia: Chiroptera): a species new to the fauna of Tajikistan
2022
Pipistrellus kuhlii (Kuhl, 1817) (Mammalia: Chiroptera): a species new to the fauna of Tajikistan. In the paper, the first record of Pipistrellus kuhlii (Kuhl, 1817) in Tajikistan is described. The site is located approximately 500 km from the northern sites of this species in Afghanistan. The discussed issues are connected with the possible isolation of the Central-Eastern Asian populations of this species. The article includes a discussion on assigning the population of P. kuhlii from Eastern Europe to a subspecies and suggests the need for further research that would allow for a clear taxonomic assignment of the analysed population.
Nietoperze Chiroptera: estywacja, hibernacja, torpor
2021
Wahania temperatury otoczenia i obniżona wilgotność powodują u wielu zwierząt, w t u nietoperzy, stres fizjologiczny.
Data from: Diet of the insectivorous bat Pipistrellus nathusii during autumn migration and summer residence
2013
Migration is widespread among vertebrates. Yet bat migration has received little attention and only in the recent decades knowledge of it has been gained. Migration can cause significant changes in behaviour and physiology, due to increasing energy demands and aerodynamic constraints. Dietary shifts, for examples, have been shown to occur in birds before onset of migration. For bats it is not known if a change in diet occurs during migration, although especially breeding season related dietary preference has been documented. It is known that fat-rich diets, and subsequent accumulation of high fat deposits, do increase the flight range of migratory bats. Some bat species can be regarded as l…
Primer estudio experimental sobre los efectos de la digestión en restos esqueléticos de murciélagos (Mammalia: Chiroptera)
2018
Taphonomic studies dealing with small mammals do not usually consider bats. Therefore, the degree to which bat bones are modi? ed by predation and other taphonomic agents are largely unknown. Here we present the results obtained from a set of experiments developed to approach this issue, focusing initially on the e?ect of digestion. For this purpose several bat bones and teeth were exposed to HCl and to two di?erent proteolithic enzymes. The experiments showed that bat bones are altered by acidic and enzymatic attack in a similar way as the bones of other small mammals. However, some patterns were observed in the teeth that had not been previously described in other groups. Thus, both the i…
Priorities and gaps in Mediterranean bat research evidence: a systematic review for the early twenty-first century
2022
Bat conservation is one of the top global concerns for research today; however, conservation efforts may still be limited and impotent due to inadequacy and scarcity of data. Hence, identifying research trends, threatening factors, species status, and geographical priorities is an essential tool for future conservation, protection and prioritization. Here we conduct a comprehensive systematic review to identify current research priorities, trends, general patterns and gaps regarding Mediterranean bat researches. A total of 97 studies were found in the years spanning between 2000 and 2021. There were 18 studies with sufficient data for qualitative statistical analysis to investigate the impa…
