Lack of a diurnal plasma adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate rhythm.

Abstract Plasma cAMP levels were measured using a protein- binding radioassay in nine healthy volunteer subjects over a period of 24 h under standardized conditions and also after an hour of orthostatism. No circadian variations of cAMP in plasma were observed. After orthostatism, however, there was a significant rise in cAMP concentrations.

Background The objective of the present study was to characterize the spectrum of circadian blood pressure changes in type I diabetes at different stages of nephropathy by using two monitorings in each patient in order to avoid intra-individual variability. OBJECTIVE The objective of the present study was to analyze the influence of the insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism of the angiotensin-converting enzyme on ambulatory blood pressure values and circadian variability in untreated patients with hypertension. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ninety-nine essential hypertensive patients, less than 50 years old (mean age 39.5+/-7.0 years), previously untreated with antihypertensive drugs were included. Circadian variations in antigen-specific proliferation of human T lymphocytes and correlation to cortisol production.

Cortisol is a well-known immunosuppressant when used therapeutically. The present investigation was set out to study if diurnal variations in endogenous cortisol production are reflected by changes in proliferative responses of human lymphocytes to either a mitogen (phytohemagglutinin-A, PHA) or an antigen (tetanus toxoid, TT) stimulus. Time-dependent changes in elbow flexion torque have been documented according to two different sampling schedules. Seven physical education students took part in the first series of experiments, and 7 other similar subjects in the second. In both sets of experiments, the subjects performed isometric contractions: maximal and submaximal at 90 degrees in the first experiments and maximal at different angular positions in the second. Lack of institutional support entails disruption in cortisol awakening response in caregivers of people with high-functioning autism.

Several studies have found disruptions in cortisol awakening response in informal caregivers. Institutional support may modulate these effects, and this study analyses how the health of caregivers is affected when institutional support is provided for families of people with high-functioning autism. Self-reported health, depression and cortisol awakening response were analysed in three groups: supported caregivers, non-supported caregivers and non-caregivers. Night-rest urinary catecholamine excretion in relation to aspects of free time, work and background data in a teacher group

Free time, work and background data were related to night-rest catecholamine excretion rates in a teacher group (n = 137) during an autumn term. The explained interindividual variance increased slightly towards the end of the term. Adrenaline excretion was predicted better than noradrenaline, notedly by coffee consumption, amount of physical activity, and subjective stress feelings which explained 16% of the variance in adrenaline excretion during night rest. However, the results indicated that the differences in catecholamine excretion during night rest remained mostly unpredictable.
