The interaction of deoxyribonucleic acid with methyltin(IV) moieties in solution studied by small-angle X-ray scattering, circular dichroism and UV s…

2000

The nature of calf thymus DNA in aqueous solution, in the presence of the organotin(IV) species Sn IV Me 3 , Sn IV Me 2 and Sn IV Me, possibly partly hydrolysed and/or hydrated, was investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV) at different temperatures and circular dichroism (CD). The results are compared with those of previous 119 Sn Mossbauer studies on condensed DNA phases. The effects of tin-phosphate oxygen bonding on the DNA melting profile in DNA-Sn IV Me systems are in agreement with previous reports on DNA-Main Group metal ion interactions. The structure and conformation of the DNA double helix are not influenced by Sn IV Me n species, even in …

The First P ‐Stereogenic 1D Coordination Polymers with the Metal Centers in the Backbone

2011

The enantiomeric ligands (R,R)- and (S,S)-bis(o-anisylphenylphosphanyl)methane (R,R-22 and S,S-22) and (R,R)- and (S,S)-bis(phenyl-m-xylylphosphanyl)methane (R,R-23 and S,S-23; dppm*), were treated with [Cu(NCCH3)4](BF4) and AgBF4 to produce the binuclear complexes [Cu2(dppm*)2(NCCH3)4](BF4)2 or [Ag2(dppm*)2](BF4)2, respectively. Then, these complexes were used as building blocks to prepare the first P-chirogenic 1D coordination polymers {[M2(dppm*)2(dmb)2](BF4)2}n [dppm* = (R,R)-22, (S,S)-22, (R,R)-23, (S,S)-23, M = Cu, Ag, dmb = 1,8-diisocyano-p-menthane] where M is part of the backbone of the polymer chain. The isostructural nature of these new polymers with the achiral parent polymers, …

Acid Titrations of poly(dG-dC).poly(dG-dC) in Aqueous Solution and in a w/o Microemulsion

2005

The model polynucleotide poly(dG-dC).poly(dG-dC) (polyGC) was titrated with a strong acid (HCl) in aqueous unbuffered solutions and in the quaternary w/o microemulsion CTAB/n-pentanol/n-hexane/water. The titrations, performed at several concentrations of NaCl in the range 0.005 to 0.600 M, were followed by recording the modifications of the electronic absorption and of the CD spectra (210or = lambdaor =350 nm) upon addition of the acid. In solution, the polynucleotide undergoes two acid-induced transitions, neither of which corresponds to denaturation of the duplex to single coil. The first transition leads to the Hoogsteen type synG.C+ duplex, while the second leads to the C+.C duplex. The…

Alkaline titrations of poly(dG-dC).poly(dG-dC): microemulsion versus solution behaviour

2007

PolyGC was titrated with a strong base in the presence of increasing concentrations of NaCl (from 0.00 to 0.60M) either in water solution or with the polynucleotide solubilized in the aqueous core of reverse micelles, i.e., the cationic quaternary water-in-oil microemulsion CTAB/n-hexane/n-pentanol/water. The results for matched samples in the two media were compared. CD and UV spectroscopies and, for the solution experiments, pH measurements were used to follow the course of deprotonation. In both media the primary effect of the addition of base was denaturation of the polynucleotide, reversible by back-titration with a strong acid. In solution, the apparent pK(a) of the transition decreas…

Three-dimensional polarimetric computational integral imaging

2012

In this paper, we propose a novel 3D polarimetric computational integral imaging system by using polarization diversity of objects under natural illumination conditions. In the system, the measured Stokes polarization parameters are utilized to generate degree of polarization images of a 3D scene. Based on degree of polarization images and original 2D images, we utilize a modified computational reconstruction method to perform 3D polarimetric image reconstruction. The system may be used to detect or classify objects with distinct polarization signatures in 3D space. Experimental results also show the proposed system may mitigate the effect of occlusion in 3D reconstruction.

Circular Economy and Value Creation: Sustainable Finance with a Real Options Approach

2021

This paper presents a methodological proposal that integrates the circular economy concept and financial valuation through real options analysis. The Value Hill model of a circular economy provides a representation of the course followed by the value of an asset. Specifically, after the primary use, the life of an asset may be extended by going through four phases: the 4R phases (Reuse, Refurbish, Remanufacture and Recycle). Financial valuation allows us to quantify value creation from firms’ asset circularity under uncertainty, modelled by binomial trees. Furthermore, the 4R phases are valued as real options by applying no-arbitrage opportunity arguments. The major contribution of this pap…

Interactions of the alternating double stranded copolymer poly(dA-dT).poly(dA-dT) with NiCl2 and CdCl2: solution behaviour

2007

The thermal denaturation of the synthetic high molecular weight double stranded polynucleotide poly(dA-dT) x poly(dA-dT) has been studied in aqueous buffered solution (Tris 1.0 mM; pH 7.8+/-0.2) in the presence of increasing concentrations of either Ni(2+) (borderline cation) or Cd(2+) (soft cation) at four different constant ionic strength values (NaCl), making use of UV and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopies. The experimental results show that the B-type double helix of the polymer is stabilized against thermal denaturation in the presence of both cations at low concentrations, relative to the systems where only NaCl is present, in the same conditions of ionic strength and pH. The eff…

Bridging rigidity and flexibility : modulation of supramolecular hydrogels by metal complexation

2021

The combination of complementary, noncovalent interactions is a key principle for the design of multistimuli responsive hydrogels. In this work, an amphiphilic peptide, supramacromolecular hydrogelator which combines metal-ligand coordination induced gelation and thermoresponsive toughening is reported. Following a modular approach, the incorporation of the triphenylalanine sequence FFF into a structural (C3EG ) and a terpyridine-functionalized (C3Tpy ) C3 -symmetric monomer enables their statistical copolymerization into self-assembled, 1D nanorods in water, as investigated by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In the presence of a terpyridine …

Myoglobin on Silica: A Case Study of the Impact of Adsorption on Protein Structure and Dynamics

2013

International audience; If protein structure and function changes upon adsorption are well documented, modification of adsorbed protein dynamics remains a blind spot, despite its importance in biological processes. The adsorption of metmyoglobin on a silica surface was studied by isotherm measurements, microcalorimetry, circular dichroïsm, and UV-visible spectroscopy to determine the thermodynamic parameters of protein adsorption and consequent structure modifications. The mean square displacement and the vibrational densities of states of the adsorbed protein were measured by elastic and inelastic neutron scattering experiments. A decrease of protein flexibility and depletion in low freque…

Thermal aggregation of bovine serum albumin at different pH: comparison with human serum albumin.

2007

We report here a study on thermal aggregation of BSA at two different pH values selected to be close to the isoelectric point (pI) of this protein. Our aim is to better understand the several steps and mechanisms accompanying the aggregation process. For this purpose we have performed kinetics of integrated intensity emission of intrinsic and extrinsic dyes, tryptophans and ANS respectively, kinetics of Rayleigh scattering and of turbidity. The results confirm the important role played by conformational changes in the tertiary structure, especially in the exposure of internal hydrophobic regions that promote intermolecular interactions. We also confirm that the absence of electrostatic repu…
