Peoples wellbeing, civic capital and sustainable practices: Evidence from the European Values Study survey

The climate change issue is showing an unprecedented level of awareness in the political realm. Changing occasional sustainable practices into stable behaviors is the challenge that policymakers face. However, what makes people environmentally aware is an unsolved question, and research on this direction is in evolution. This paper examines factors that promote environmentally responsible behaviors. The study tests the hypothesis that people's wellbeing (SWB) predisposes individuals toward environmentalism. Civic engagement, corporate social responsibility and the fight against the extortion racket

The chapter focuses on the concept of civic engagement, paying primary attention to the social responsibilities of business owners who are consolidated in the moment in which they decide to cooperate with each other and to collaborate with the police force in favour of action against criminality of a mafia nature. In the following pages, the author examines the reasons given by some business owners for their rebellion against the extortion rackets.

Il professore Franco Salvo. Un maestro dei diritti di libertà a Palermo nella seconda metà del Novecento

This paper focuses on the figure of Franco Salvo, a teacher of history and philosophy at the classical high school Umberto I in Palermo from 1945 to 1981. He was a master of freedom rights who taught democratically and critically the civic education in a historical perspective. Salvo was a representative figure of the Sicilian school after the Second World War, a master of life. As his students recall, in the 1968 he supported the student movement, forming their consciences for a critical reflection, a responsible freedom, a social and political commitment.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CIVIC FACTORS AND THE MIDDLE PROFICIENCY LEVEL OF CIVIC KNOWLEDGE

This study explores the relationship between civic and citizenship factors and the middle proficiency level of students’ civic knowledge in the Baltic countries: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The study uses large scale data from the IEA’s International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) 2016. According to ICCS 2016, 39% of students from the three Baltic countries and only 26% of students from the Nordic countries had a middle proficiency level of civic knowledge. Media culture is a firm part of youth cultures today. Media can also be seen as one empowering technology in the information society alongside traditional school and government. What kind of civic identities are young people constructing in contemporary media culture? This article discusses media-saturated youth and audience agency, drawing on Dahlgren's ideas of civic culture. Zarys koncepcji Habermasowskiej sfery publicznej

Dla Habermasa sfera publiczna jest centrum życia społeczno-politycznego. Jest ona niejako buforem między społeczeństwem a płaszczyzną władzy i polityki. Właściwy jej kształt zapewnia możliwość trafnej oceny problemów i przekazywania ich do centrów decyzyjnych władzy. Sfera publiczna jest sferą prywatnych ludzi gromadzących się w publiczność, jednak nie jako biernych widzów, ale aktywnie włączających się w definiowanie i rozwiązywanie wspólnie tematyzowanych problemów. Jej ideał Habermas upatruje w XVIII-wiecznej sferze mieszczańsko-obywatelskiej, po której jednak następuje jej rozpad. Media stają się elementem opiniotwórczym i manipulującym publicznością.

Il contributo presenta l'edizione e il commento di alcune iscrizioni tardoantiche in lingua greca, rinvenute a Hierapolis di Frigia (Turchia) nel corso degli scavi della Missione Archeologica Italiana. L'attestazione di efebarchi, ginnasiarchi e stefanofori in un'epoca ormai tarda (IV-V sec. d.C.) offre l'occasione per una disamina delle istituzioni civiche di Hierapolis nella Tarda Antichità, in una fase storica caratterizzata da un avanzato processo di cristianizzazione.
