Women in Aeschylean scene: a linguistic characterization

Este trabalho examina os dispositivos linguísticos por meio dos quais Ésquilo conseguiu apresentar as personagens femininas da Oresteia. A análise é feita após um levantamento das seções recitativas de três tragédias; características fonéticas, morfológicas e sintáticas foram estudadas e comparadas com a linguagem dos personagens masculinos. Os resultados desta pesquisa se ajustam a outras tentativas precedentes de mostrar como a sociolinguística pode explicar o retrato formal dos personagens trágicos e cômicos. The purpose of this contribution is to re-examine the iconography of an Etruscan hydria by the Micali Painter, probably the most famous craftsman of the black-figure ceramics technique at the end of the 6th century B.C. In our opinion, this vase would present the Etruscan version of a Greek myth showing the ancient Tuscans as pirates attempting to kidnap Dionysus. This figuration, which also appears in Greek sources, could be interpreted as the rivalry between the two cultures for the control of the wine trade in the western part of the Mediterranean. Dynamics of a harmonic oscillator coupled with a Glauber amplifier

A system of a quantum harmonic oscillator bi-linearly coupled with a Glauber amplifier is analysed considering a time-dependent Hamiltonian model. The Hilbert space of this system may be exactly subdivided into invariant finite dimensional subspaces. Resorting to the Jordan-Schwinger map, the dynamical problem within each invariant subspace may be traced back to an effective SU(2) Hamiltonian model expressed in terms of spin variables only. This circumstance allows to analytically solve the dynamical problem and thus to study the exact dynamics of the oscillator-amplifier system under specific time-dependent scenarios.
