Gemcitabine, oxaliplatin and weekly high-dose 5-FU as 24-h infusion in chemonaive patients with advanced or metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma: a m…

2006

ABSTRACT Background: Combinations of gemcitabine–oxaliplatin, gemcitabine–5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and 5-FU–oxaliplatin have synergistic activity and nonoverlapping adverse effect profiles. This trial assessed efficacy and safety of the triple combination gemcitabine–oxaliplatin and infusional 5-FU in patients with locally advanced (n = 11) or metastatic (n = 32) pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Patients and methods: A total of 43 eligible patients were treated with intravenous infusions of gemcitabine (900 mg/m2 over 30 min), followed by oxaliplatin (65 mg/m2 over 2 h) and 5-FU (1500 mg/m2 over 24 h) on days 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle. Results: Among all 43 patients, the tumor response rate was 19% …

Influence of gender on delays and early mortality in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: Insight from the first French Metaregistry, 2005–201…

2018

International audience; Background - Women show greater mortality after acute myocardial infarction. We decided to investigate whether gender affects delays and impacts in-hospital mortality in a large population. Methods and results - We performed a patient-level analysis of 7 French MI registries from different regions from January 2005 to December 2012. All patients with acute STEMI were included within 12 h from symptom onset and a first medical contact with a mobile intensive care unit an emergency department of a hospital with percutaneous coronary intervention facility. Primary study outcomes were STEMI, patient and system, delays. Secondary outcome was in-hospital mortality. 16,733 p…

Urinary Incontinence in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Common Co-morbidity or a Typical Adverse Effect?

2019

Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as a loss of bladder control and is characterized by the complaint of any involuntary leakage of urine. Evidence suggests that the prevalence of UI is higher in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) than in age-matched controls in both sexes. UI is classified as stress, urge, and mixed, and has a considerable impact on quality of life. However, the prevalence of UI in individuals with COPD is mostly unexplored in clinical research and often underestimated in clinical practice. Interestingly, although the involuntary leakage of a small amount of urine during coughing (e.g., stress UI) is among the most plausible causes of UI in patien…

Salvage Therapy With Oral Metronomic Cyclophosphamide and Methotrexate for Castration refractory Metastatic Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate Resistant …

2011

Objective To investigate the activity and toxicity of metronomic chemotherapy with low-dose oral cyclophosphamide (CTX) and methotrexate (MTX) in patients with metastatic CRPC that progresses after docetaxel. Patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) that progresses after docetaxel may benefit from receiving further chemotherapy. Methods Patients were treated with CTX 50 mg/d p.o. plus MTX 2.4 mg p.o. twice per week without rest periods. All patients received simultaneous luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogue. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response was defined as a 50% reduction on 2 evaluations at least 4 weeks apart. Objective response was measured according to …

Differential diagnosis of behavioral variant of fronto-temporal dementia (bvFTD)

2011

Background: The aim of the paper is the differential diagnosis of various types of Fronto-Temporal Dementia (FTD), with the focus on its behavioural variant (bvFTD). Material/Method: Material and Method. Screening was done in order to assess the depth of dementia with the short version of MMSE, while evaluation of various variants of FTD was performed with the use of such neuropsychological tests as Newcomb and Chicago Fluency Tests, Wechsler Memory Scale - III (WMS-III), Western Aphasia Battery (WAB-R), and the Boston Naming Test (BNT). Behaviour was evaluated with a Polish version of the Frontal Behavioral Inventory (FBInv). The inventory consists of 24 questions which enable an evaluatio…

Permanence of Modifications in Oral Microcirculation in Ex-Smokers.

2019

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the long-term effects of smoking and to investigate the permanence of this damage to the oral microcirculation. Material/Methods: We recruited 75 patients and divided them into 3 groups: group 1 was composed of 25 healthy non-smokers, group 2 was composed of 25 healthy current smokers, and group 3 was composed of 25 healthy ex-smokers. Video-capillaroscopic examination was performed on all patients. The video-capillaroscopic investigation was performed on patients in sitting position, always with the same light source, at the same room temperature (23°C), in the morning, with the same operator (GAS), and was repeated many times for every area …

Bolus vs. continuous hepatic arterial infusion of cisplatin plus intravenous 5-fluorouracil chemotherapy for unresectable colorectal metastases.

1994

A multicenter, randomized Phase 2 study that compared patients, affected by colorectal liver metastases, who received intrahepatic arterial infusion with two different schedules of cisplatin, bolusvs. continuous infusion, and systemic 5-fluorouracil. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to validate results of a previous Phase 2 trial on bolus cisplatin intrahepatic arterial infusion, which reported a 47 percent response rate and a 32 percent 4-year survival rate for Gennari's Stage 2 patients, with a high rate of neurologic, gastrointestinal, and hematologic toxicity. METHODS: One hundred nine patients were randomized in a Phase 2 study to receive cisplatin intrahepatic arterial infusion (24 …

Minimal manifestation status and prednisone withdrawal in the MGTX trial

2020

ObjectiveTo examine whether sustained minimal manifestation status (MMS) with complete withdrawal of prednisone is better achieved in thymectomized patients with myasthenia gravis (MG).MethodsThis study is a post hoc analysis of data from a randomized trial of thymectomy in MG (Thymectomy Trial in Non-Thymomatous Myasthenia Gravis Patients Receiving Prednisone Therapy [MGTX]). MGTX was a multicenter, randomized, rater-blinded 3-year trial that was followed by a voluntary 2-year extension for patients with acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody–positive MG without thymoma. Patients were randomized 1:1 to thymectomy plus prednisone vs prednisone alone. Participants were age 18–65 years at enr…

Survival outcomes in patients with large (≥7cm) clear cell renal cell carcinomas treated with nephron-sparing surgery versus radical nephrectomy: Res…

2018

Background Does the dogma of nephron sparing surgery (NSS) still stand for large renal masses? Available studies dealing with that issue are considerably biased often mixing imperative with elective indications for NSS and also including less malignant variants or even benign renal tumors. Here, we analyzed the oncological long-term outcomes of patients undergoing elective NSS or radical tumor nephrectomy (RN) for non-endophytic, large (≥7cm) clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC). Methods Prospectively acquired, clinical databases from two academic high-volume centers were screened for patients from 1980 to 2010. The query was strictly limited to patients with elective indications. Surgical co…

This study aimed to describe the effectiveness of OBV/PTV/r +/- DSV (3D/2D regimen) with or without ribavirin (RBV) in HCV or HCV/HIV co-infected patients with GT1/GT4 and CKD (IIIb-V stages), including those under hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in routine clinical practice in Spain in 2015. Material and methods Non-interventional, retrospective, multicenter data collection study in 31 Spanish sites. Socio-demographic, clinical variables, study treatment characteristics, effectiveness and toler…
