Effects of wearing a full body compression garment during recovery from an ultra-trail race
2020
In sport disciplines with high levels of muscle damage such as an ultra-trail competition, full body compression garments (FBCG) may have an ergogenic effect during the recovery process. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of FBCG worn for 24 h immediately after a 107-km ultra-trail on delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), muscle damage, inflammatory and renal response. Thirty-two athletes (19 males and 13 females; VO2peak: 54.1 ± 5.2 ml O2/kg/min) participated in the study. The following blood markers were analysed before, immediately after, at 24 and 48 h post-race: lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase, C-reactive protein and creatinine. The glomerular filtration rate was a…
Mythical Creatures, the Making of Wearing Apparel, and the Landscape
2011
Stones where mythical creatures carry out work connected with wearing apparel appear in publications on the mythological stones of Lithuania and Belarus. This theme is not so widely considered in Latvian research literature. The aim of this work is to show that in Latvian folklore, by natural (stone, tree, stump, water, cave, etc) and man-made objects of the cultural space (threshing barn, cemetery, hill-fort, etc), mythical creatures tailor, spin, knit and mend for people or for themselves. Metallic artefacts from Monte Molião (Lagos, Portugal) : the roman clothing elements
2020

An Anthropometric Analysis of Seated and Standing People
2012
Thermal radiative exchanges of the human body with surrounding surfaces play an essential role in describing the thermal conditions of people in a given environment. Moreover, they could be induced by, among other causes, the presence of high intensity radiant sources, like lighting spots or infrared heating panels. This implies that a suitable set of radiation data related to human body anthropometry is required. This set of data mainly comprises the body surface area, the clothing area factor, the effective radiation area factor, and projected area factors. Several analytical or experimental methods may be utilized in order to compute these parameters. A detailed description of the most c…
Family Transformation: The Case of the Textile and Clothing Industry Workers in Valencia / La transformación de la familia: el caso de los trabajador…
2014
The main goal of this article is to assess the infl uence of the individualisation process on working-class family relationships. This is a relevant analysis, bearing in mind the importance of the family in welfare provision in Spain and the transformative capacity that the individualisation process has had for the conception and management of family bonds; however, the main theoretical work which has dealt with this process to date has failed to address the working class. The in-depth interviews conducted with workers from the textile and clothing industry of the Valencian regions of l’Alcoia, Comtat and Vall d’Albaida led to the conclusion that their concept of family and care responsibil…
Zinc isotope variations in archeological human teeth (Lapa do Santo, Brazil) reveal dietary transitions in childhood and no contamination from gloves
2020
International audience; Zinc (Zn) isotope ratios of dental enamel are a promising tracer for dietary reconstruction in archeology, but its use is still in its infancy. A recent study demonstrated a high risk of Zn contamination from nitrile, and latex gloves used during chemical sample preparation. Here we assess the potential impact of the use of such gloves during enamel sampling on the Zn isotope composition of teeth from a population of early Holocene hunter gatherers from Lapa do Santo, Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. We first examined the amount of Zn and its isotopic composition released from the gloves used in this study by soaking them in weak nitric acid and water. We compared …
Compression Garments in Sport
2019
Abstract In this chapter we summarize the main scientific information regarding the applications of compression garments in sports. This chapter covers the discussion from the clinical compression’s application in patients to how its use has been extended to sport. In addition, the composition and different kinds of textiles are considered regarding the level of compression and methodologies/standards for its classification. The chapter is organized in sections considering the effects of compression garments on physiological, psychological, strength, power, endurance, and muscle activation parameters, and ends with indications of future research directions and methodological aspects regardi…
Role of Marketing and Technological Innovation on Satisfaction and Word of Mouth in Retailing
2017
Despite the importance of innovation in business performance, investigation into innovation in services is scanty and lacking consensus. In retailing, it is a topic that has been awakening considerable academic and business interest in recent years. In this study context, this work analyses innovation in retail experiences from two aspects—marketing innovation and technological innovation—to understand the role it exercises in satisfaction and subsequent recommendation. For that purpose, our objective is to investigate the direct and indirect influence of marketing and technological innovation on satisfaction and word of mouth through three core constructs: store image, consumer value, and …
Green apparel buying behaviour : A Stimulus–Organism–Behaviour–Consequence (SOBC) perspective on sustainability-oriented consumption in Japan
2021
The green apparel literature has previously examined the disparity between consumers' positive purchase intentions and their actual purchase behaviour. This dichotomous behaviour represents the critical ‘intention–behaviour gap’, which marketers must seek to reduce to increase sales of their products. The current study thus seeks to identify the drivers of green apparel purchase behaviour that may potentially mitigate this gap. The proposed conceptual model is grounded in the Stimulus–Organism–Behaviour–Consequence (SOBC) paradigm and is tested through an analysis of cross-sectional data collected from 387 green apparel product consumers in Japan who were sourced through Macromill Inc. The …
