What is the process when historically obviously neutral things are becoming loaded with mental meanings, associations and qualities, getting a new turn of expression? The article deals with the changing of men’s underwear from garments of pure utility to high fashionable, visible things. The context in which the change has taken place, the language which supports the new meanings, the forms, colours and use of the “unmentionable” are studied from an ethnological viewpoint. The author emphasises the aspects of new adaptations of the meaning of fashion in relation to changing gender roles, new ideals of the body and new mechanisms in consumer culture.

The article analyzes the relationship between clothing and ethnic identity in the works of Greek writer Lucian of Samosata. We concentrate on importance of clothes in the construction of foreigners’ “diversity” and we explain the symbolic role of the assumption of Greek attire in foreigners’ process of Hellenization. We also examine how Greek clothing represents, for Greek people in Roman context, a mark of ethnic and cultural differentiation.

In this paper a first experimental study on Dacron© 360 woven constitutive behavior is presented. This woven is widely adopted in sail manufacturing, it is obtained by weaving polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn and it shows some peculiar features due to its own manufacturing process. The experimental tests, in terms of tensile tests and cyclic tests, clearly show the orthotropy features of the material, its high strength and deformability. The examination with optical microscope of the tested specimen allows to evidence the interaction between warp and weft yarns. The obtained results represent a first step for the definition of a correct computational approach to such materials.

The adopted approach combines relational sociology and geography and addresses the different kinds of spaces clothing practices create in ECEC. INTRODUCTION In out-of-laboratory settings the surface EMG measurements are complicated by the requirement of careful electrode placement and skin preparation. The development of washable textile electrodes that can be sowed into sportswear enable muscle activity recordings during normal locomotion without skin preparation and the problem of wires hanging around the body [1]. In this study we performed validity, reliability and feasibility tests of the textile electrodes embedded into shorts against the traditional bipolar surface electrodes.
