How the EU regional policy can shape urban change in Southern Europe: learning from different planning processes in Palermo

The article provides an interpretation of the role played by the EU regional policy in the process of urban change experienced in Palermo, the fifth Italian city by population and capital of one of the largest Europe’s less developed regions (Sicily). Through an analysis of various EU-funded planning initiatives implemented over the last two decades – from the Urban Community Initiative in the late nineties to the current Integrated Territorial Investments under the 2014–2020 urban agenda –, the work explores their effects from three main perspectives: urban regen- eration, local governance, and planning innovation.

Longitudinal associations between adolescent behaviour problems and perceived family relationships

AbstractThe goal of the present study was to examine the longitudinal associations between perceived family relationships and adolescents’ externalizing/ internalizing problems. The study sample included 366 pupils from secondary schools in Latvia, 12-14 years of age, who completed self-report questionnaires. Data were collected in two assessments 1 year apart. The results indicate that elevations in adolescent problem behavior prospectively predicted subsequent decreases in perceived family cohesion and increases in family conflict. During the 6th September 2002 earthquake the highest damage level in Palermo was observed in the SE sector. This is a recent urbanization area where reinforced concrete structures predominate. A detailed analysis of soil properties in Palermo was carried out by City-GIS to investigate a possible role of nearsurface geology on earthquake effects. City-GIS is a tool dedicated to natural hazard evaluation in urban areas. Questo lavoro esplora, in un gruppo terapeutico con pazienti gravi, due tra le variabili di processo più indagate nelle terapie di gruppo, l’alleanza terapeutica e la coesione, analizzandone le associazioni con gli esiti del trattamento in termini di sintomi e difese. E’ stato esaminato un gruppo a lungo termine, semi-aperto, a cadenza settimanale. L’osservazione si è svolta per un periodo di 18 mesi, per un totale di 50 sedute. Sono stati monitorati 11 soggetti che riportavano diverse diagnosi nell’Asse I e II del DSM IV.
