Pion induced pion production on deuterium: A Quasifree process

1992

Abstract A detailed experimental analysis of the π+d → π+π−pp in-plane coincidence data first presented by Rui et al. is compared to an expanded version of the Oset and Vicente-Vacas model for pion-induced pion production on a free nucleon. This extended model averages over Fermi motion to describe the assumed quasifree nature of the process occurring on the deuteron and includes nine additional diagrams to account for the N ∗ → N (ππ) p-wave reaction channels. Experimental effects such as pion energy loss in the target and in the detectors, pion decay and muon detection are investigated and incorporated into the comparison of experimental data and theory. Inclusion of Fermi motion was foun…

Some common fixed point results for weakly compatible mappings in cone metric type space

2013

In this paper we consider cone metric type spaces which are introduced as a generalization of symmetric and metric spaces by Khamsi and Hussain in 2010. Then we prove several common fixed point for weakly compatible mappings in cone metric type spaces. All results are proved in the settings of a solid cone, without the assumption of continuity of the mappings.

Investigation of Solid-Liquid Phase Transition for Sn-54wt%In Alloy by Positron Anihilation Spectroscopy

1995

The peak coincidence counting rate F(T) was measured for Sn-54wt%In alloy at the temperature range from room temperature to 400°C. It was observed that for both heating and cooling run, F(Τ) parameter changes . in the liquid phase. These changes were related to disintegration of SnII microcrystals. From a simple trapping model the defect disintegration enthalpy, H1,, was calculated. For heating and cooling run, the value of H1 was 0.53 ± 0.03 eV and 0.67 ± 0.07 eV, respectively. For well-annealed and cold rolled samples we find only one component, equal 200 ps, in the lifetime spectrum. PACS numbers: 64.70.Dv, 61.72.Cc, 78.70.Bj.

How coincidence Bears on Persistence

2011

The ‘paradoxes of coincidence’ are generally taken as an important factor for deciding between rival views on persistence through time. In particular, the ability to deal with apparent cases of temporary coincidence is usually regarded as a good reason for favouring perdurantism (or ‘four-dimensionalism’) over endurantism (or ‘three-dimensionalism’). However, the recent work of Gilmore (2007) and McGrath (2007) challenges this standard view. For different reasons, both Gilmore and McGrath conclude that perdurantism does not really obtain support from the puzzles of temporary coincidence. In this paper, I will evaluate their arguments and defend the opposite view: that the paradoxes of coinc…

Time of flight measurements based on FPGA using a breast dedicated PET

2014

In this work the implementation of a Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) using a Nutt delay line FPGA-based and applied on a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) device is going to be presented in order to check the system’s suitability for Time of Flight (TOF) measurements. In recent years, FPGAs have shown great advantages for precise time measurements in PET. The architecture employed for these measurements is described in detail. The system developed was tested on a dedicated breast PET prototype, composed of LYSO crystals and Positive Sensitive Photomultipliers (PSPMTs). Two distinct experiments were carried out for this purpose. In the first test, system linearity was evaluated in order to …

Background light in potential sites for the ANTARES undersea neutrino telescope

2000

The ANTARES collaboration has performed a series of {\em in situ} measurements to study the background light for a planned undersea neutrino telescope. Such background can be caused by $^{40}$K decays or by biological activity. We report on measurements at two sites in the Mediterranean Sea at depths of 2400~m and 2700~m, respectively. Three photomultiplier tubes were used to measure single counting rates and coincidence rates for pairs of tubes at various distances. The background rate is seen to consist of three components: a constant rate due to $^{40}$K decays, a continuum rate that varies on a time scale of several hours simultaneously over distances up to at least 40~m, and random bur…

Results from a calibration of XENON100 using a source of dissolved radon-220

2017

A Rn 220 source is deployed on the XENON100 dark matter detector in order to address the challenges in calibration of tonne-scale liquid noble element detectors. We show that the Pb 212 beta emission can be used for low-energy electronic recoil calibration in searches for dark matter. The isotope spreads throughout the entire active region of the detector, and its activity naturally decays below background level within a week after the source is closed. We find no increase in the activity of the troublesome Rn 222 background after calibration. Alpha emitters are also distributed throughout the detector and facilitate calibration of its response to Rn 222 . Using the delayed coincidence of R…

Quantification of the singlet-singlet annihilation times of individual bichromophoric molecules by photon coincidence measurements.

2010

Singlet−singlet annihilation (SSA) times in individual bichromophoric molecules have been quantified by time-resolved photon coincidence measurements. An analytical expression has been derived to obtain the SSA times from the coincidence histograms. The results have been confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. SSA was found to be about three times faster than the fluorescence lifetime of the chromophores. Considering the spectral overlap for SSA and for energy transfer from an excited to a ground state chromophore, we conclude that in the weak coupling limit for any arrangement of the two chromophores both processes occur on similar time scales.
