Identification of a novel recurrent 1q42.2-1qter deletion in high risk MYCN single copy 11q deleted neuroblastomas
2012
Neuroblastoma is an aggressive embryonal tumor that accounts for similar to 15% of childhood cancer deaths. Hitherto, despite the availability of comprehensive genomic data on DNA copy number changes in neuroblastoma, relatively little is known about the genes driving neuroblastoma tumorigenesis. In this study, high resolution array comparative genome hybridization (CGH) was performed on 188 primary neuroblastoma tumors and 33 neuroblastoma cell lines to search for previously undetected recurrent DNA copy number gains and losses. A new recurrent distal chromosome 1q deletion (del(1)(q42.2qter)) was detected in seven cases. Further analysis of available array CGH datasets revealed 13 additio…
Comparative study on enzymatic activity and molecules stability of some commercial proteolytic enzymes used in pancreatic islet isolation.
2009
In pancreatic islets purification, for cell therapy applications, the major enzymes used are obtained from Clostridium hystoliticum; class I and class II collagenases (COLL G and COLL H). They are used in a defined tissue dissociation enzyme (TDE) mixtures together neutral protease (Dispase) or thermolysin (Thermostable Neutral Protease). The TDE mixtures were in part responsible for the success of the Edmonton protocol; however, just to now, people working in islets purification found discrepancy in an application to another one. This variability in application see in the enzymatic blend composition the higher accused, such as the contamination from endotoxines due to extractive production…
HSP90 and eNOS partially co-localize and change cellular localization in relation to different ECM components in 2D and 3D cultures of adult rat card…
2007
Background information. Cultivation techniques promoting three-dimensional organization of mammalian cells are of increasing interest, since they confer key functionalities of the native ECM (extracellular matrix) with a power for regenerative medicine applications. Since ECM compliance influences a number of cell functions, Matrigel-based gels have become attractive tools, because of the ease with which their mechanical properties can be controlled. In the present study, we took advantage of the chemical and mechanical tunability of commonly used cell culture substrates, and co-cultures to evaluate, on both two- and three-dimensional cultivated adult rat cardiomyocytes, the impact of ECM c…
Separation properties of (n, m)-IFS attractors
2017
Abstract The separation properties of self similar sets are discussed in this article. An open set condition for the (n, m)- iterated function system is introduced and the concepts of self similarity, similarity dimension and Hausdorff dimension of the attractor generated by an (n, m) - iterated function system are studied. It is proved that the similarity dimension and the Hausdorff dimension of the attractor of an (n, m) - iterated function system are equal under this open set condition. Further a necessary and sufficient condition for a set to satisfy the open set condition is established.

Criteria for the prescription of oral bisphosphonates for the treatment of osteoporosis in a series of women referred for tooth extraction
2012
Objective: To evaluate the criteria for the prescription of oral bisphosphonates (OB) in a series of women with osteoporosis referred for tooth extraction. Study design: The study included 38 postmenopausal women on treatment with OBs. The following variables were analysed: age, weight, height, type of OB and duration of treatment, bone densitometry and risk factors for osteoporosis. In addition, the osteoporosis self-assessment tool (OST) was administered and collagen type I C-telopeptide (CTX) levels were measured. Results: Bone densitometry had only been performed in six patients (15.7%) before starting OB treatment. Based on the results of the OST, nine (23.6%) of the participants prese…

Prediction of bone mass gain by bone turnover parameters after parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism: neural network software statistical…
2006
Background Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is the most frequent endocrine hypersecretion disease, and parathyroidectomy is the only curative option, since pharmacologic therapy reduces hypercalcemia but does not impede parathyroid hormone hypersecretion. According to guidelines from the National Institutes of Health, parathyroidectomy is associated with bone mass increase in some asymptomatic patients, while in others bone mass is not changed after surgery. Therefore, we performed the present study in an attempt to elucidate whether a preoperative biochemical bone parameter can be predictive of a significant vertebral bone mass increase in patients with pHPT. Methods For each patient we …
Shell Extracts from the Marine Bivalve Pecten maximus Regulate the Synthesis of Extracellular Matrix in Primary Cultured Human Skin Fibroblasts
2014
International audience; Mollusc shells are composed of more than 95% calcium carbonate and less than 5% of an organic matrix consisting mostly of proteins, glycoproteins and polysaccharides. Previous studies have elucidated the biological activities of the shell matrices from bivalve molluscs on skin, especially on the expression of the extracellular matrix components of fibroblasts. In this work, we have investigated the potential biological activities of shell matrix components extracted from the shell of the scallop Pecten maximus on human fibroblasts in primary culture. Firstly, we demonstrated that shell matrix components had different effects on general cellular activities. Secondly, …
Psammous desmo-osteoblastoma
1987
Fibro-osteo-cemental lesions of the jaw bones are a heterogeneous group of diseases which present problems in classification. Psammous desmo-osteoblastoma is one of four newly proposed entities (Makek 1983) and has until now been characterized by its light microscopic, clinical and radiological features. On electron microscopy this tumour exhibits fibroblastic (preosteoblastic), osteoblastic and osteocytic cells and a globular mineralization unlike the mineralization of the psammoma bodies. Immunohistological investigations with anti-osteonectin, a bone specific protein linking mineral to collagen, showed positive intracellular staining in all tumour cells and extracellular staining in the …
